Beginners / Re: need help understanding UEnv.txt and its content....

Everyone working with the kernel should start with the existing docs.  See https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt. The git source tree includes this and many other files with tons of useful info. You should put a link to this in the wiki.

i apologize that i didn't write this clearly, as it was late when i started the thread. my bad  :P
i read the that link before on another board and currently using it. but what im actually trying to do is to document uEnv.txt and complete many of the undocumented parameters (like you said) that isn't written in the parameters page.
and also to try to find people who played with the uEnv.txt and know more about it, so that i don't need to test it my self

ill put the link in the wiki for the kernel parameters, thx for the input :)

There are sunxi specific settings and driver settings as well that aren't documented in the standard doc files that need to be in the wiki as well.
does any one know where this is?  :'(

Beginners / need help understanding UEnv.txt and its content....
« on: April 07, 2014, 07:20:48 am »
after 2 years with allwinner sbc/stb, i came to realize that, IMO, the documentation for UEnv.txt
is lacking
neither google nor the linux-sunxi wiki help much......
so i started a reference for it @ the linux sunxi wiki page

i found tons of parameters, without description.
soo i was hoping that anyone could help me with it.
https://sites.google.com/site/how2beagleboard/u-boot/uenv
http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php?topic=132.msg476#msg476

so, if you know what it's for, and/or if you know more, you can just either reply here or contribute directly to the wiki page and help me complete it

cheers  ;D

Beginners / Re: Cubietruck HTPC?
« on: March 24, 2014, 12:56:32 pm »
But when i'm not working on it i was wondering if i could use it as an effective HTPC?

I'd be playing MKV files mostly.
:-\ :-\ :-\
clarification needed. pls elaborate.
Xbmc?android?
MKV is just a container. whether it is playable depends on the quality and/or codec used. soo elaborate more.
E.g, Hi10P HW or SW decoding is impossible on any current mobile chipset AFAIK

I read that cubie1 and 2 had issues with video decoding.

i personally owned(or used to)  mele A2000 (allwinner a10, died  :'() , A13 Tablet(for my parents) , chinese branded allwinner A20 STB and Cubieboard2.
I also own the Rpi.

i can tell you that i have very little problem with video playback ( on the chinese branded a20 STB), and if i do, SW decode still able to smoothly play 720p medium quality video, using android.........
soo all and all i dont find this to be such a huge problem

p.s. for htpc i usually use android, as it is easier for my family to use it. i haven't use XBMC or other linux based HTPC distro in, quite a while, since android TV box came out. for my personal i use linux thou....
and my CB2 is running headless

« on: March 11, 2014, 03:50:40 pm »
which Linux distribution will be best for that to cubietruck....
it varies from person to person. but if you use Lubuntu, you can use raspberry pi tutorials for your cubie board

there are many ways to do it, and all has its merits.
but, IMO FTP(for uploading/downloading files) + DNLA(streaming video/musics) is the best easiest way.

you can use raspberry pi tutorials, just remember to change all applicable variables (e.g username, ip address, directory,etc...)
installing FTP
installing DLNA

after that you should be able to access your server with apps

for accessing from outside is a bit complex for anyone with limited networking background
however, if you feel you are up to it,
http://www.ducky-pond.com/posts/2012/Jul/dynamic-dns-with-no-ip-on-debian/

my advice to you is to Google it, since there are many tutorial for raspberry pi that can be used in cubieboard1/2/3

if you want to do it the easy way, use android image for cubieboard,  :P(not recommended)
hahahahahaha......

P.S. if you are a pure pc newbie, my post wont help you much.lolz

Beginners / Re: Which CubiBoard For Chrome?
« on: March 06, 2014, 03:09:36 am »
Sounds to me like it only pulls about 5 watts

Now that I'm going to pull the trigger on a purchase.... Is www.cubietruck.com operated by the board's developers?

5W if using device only under full load as far as i know. when idle or low usage, i think its about 3.5W
add another 2.5W if your are planning on using hdd.  :P

http://cubieboard.org/buy/ has the official reseller/distributor list r
you should look out for a seller in your country.
 ;D

that is only if you must use  linux. afaik it cant play hd on youtube, where as on android you can.

for media consuming and ease of use go for android.

for multi purposes(server, nas, cloud sync and storage, torrentbox,etc....) go for linux.

choose the one that fits your need
my 2 bits

peace out........

Beginners / Re: Flash Player Support
« on: March 05, 2014, 11:54:03 am »
Is there adobe flash support withing the firefox or chrome browser?
running on Android definitely, ubuntu/other disro slow performing flash p[layer.
linux ARM doesnt have flash from adobe which is the best out there IMO. there is other open source flash player is available, but it is still lacking in terms of usability.

on android, i dont really use chrome, so i cant say. but there is and archive version of flash from adobe (not google play market) which you can install and use.

Raspberry has not enough power for running flash.
not exactly right. first of all, until recently, it lacked GPU driver (broadcom just released an open-sourced one).
I believe with maximum overclocking and active cooling + android OS(should be soon), it should be enough to stream flash movies.

What's about the cubieboard 2 or 3?
On Android definitely

then again this is true for many android based tv sticks. using mk808 and CB2 as android tv for the living room and bedroom, with firefox and flash, among other app.

I will try entering the settings with my routers info. will post back results when I get done.

soo what exactly have you tried

did you try

Code: [Select]
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp
iface default inet dhcp
##add these for usb-lan dongle
#iface eth1 inet dhcp

then post your
ifconfig
lsusb

Beginners / Re: Which CubiBoard For Chrome?
« on: March 05, 2014, 11:40:56 am »
since you only use
Intended use: a LAN-connected box under the TV whose sole purpose is to render an instance of the Google Chrome browser - mainly to play YouTube videos

that says it all, cubietruck1/2 running android is more than enuff. heck, even other android tv stick is gud enuff.  :P

Beginners / Re: USB Drives stuck with Read-only Permissions
« on: March 05, 2014, 11:17:59 am »
try
Code: [Select]
sudo pcmanfm
then try copying files to the usb. if successful, then its probably permission setting problem.
in which you just need to chown/chmod

if it fail, then it could be any numerous other problem hardware/software. try other hardware if you have a spare, example  freshly formatted usb flash disk or usb hub.

you can also try
Code: [Select]
sudo mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda /mount/pointto mount it as read/writable just change /dev/sda and /mount/point to the right partition and location to mount

« on: March 01, 2014, 07:47:25 am »
post your  /etc/network/interfaces
.

if you meant it is blank, then type with this and save it

Code: [Select]
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp
##for static uncomment bellow and comment the "iface eth0 inet dhcp" line
##change the address and gateway to correspond with your router.
#iface eth0 inet static
#address 192.168.X.XX
#netmask 255.255.255.0
#gateway 192.168.1.1

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet manual
wpa-roam /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
iface default inet dhcp

let us know if it works  :)

Beginners / Re: [SOLVED] What is the correct fstab config??
« on: December 09, 2013, 04:00:13 pm »
Hey I got almost the same problem. I added a line to fstab (it was blank originally), and the system cannot boot. It halted as a black screen with a linux logo on the top. I only added a line as:
/dev/sda1 /home/user1/share ext4 dafaults 0 0
is 2 the only option for the last column

nope, 0 can also work.
read this if you wanna understand what those no. means
