Is a desert the better place to check the colors? I think the "heavy yelloy" the best photo !!

By the way, thanks to work on media servers, we need this so much.

It's not quite a desert. It is the planet Mars from the movie "John Carter". There should be more red.

Light at the end of the tunnel .... finally ....
I'll take this version and be aware of the changes.
Thank you!

I changed the resolution as outlined in the beginning of the post and it worked.
The version is actually quite unstable. Locking and restarting several times. I have not had the problem reported with the colors (yellowish), but can not run in full any film. Lock and go to the prompt.

Someone is getting to watch some movie altogether. Here the XBMC will prompt with a constancy amazing.
I read in a forum on XBMC on Android that lack of permission on some folders cause similar situation. Just could not find it this posting to try to give permission to the folders required.

Apparently in your case file damaged during download. I downloaded and  unpacked, copied on sdcard, and everything went perfectly.

Vladimir,
You wrote in the post that the initial build of XBMC you did was following the script address: http://linux-sunxi.org/XBMC thus starting the repositories rella or empatzero. I have read on some forums that whoever won more compatibility with Allwinner was the vidonme (in which Android is one of the most compatible): https://github.com/vidonme/xbmc, including updates are newer and already offer the XBMC 13 Alpha.

Vladimir,
I "burn" this image in my 15Gb SDCARD and see all working fine.
Then I do some customs, like a samba server and wifi ...

Now, I need to backup again to an image file, but the image have the sdcard space size (15Gb) and not your distro size (about 3Gb).

I'm using Win32DiskImager.

By the way, how can I install in the NAND?

If You need only personal backup, and You don't plan to write this image on a smaller sdcard, I think one of the best option just create image and then compress it with rar, tar, zip etc.

To create the image for a smaller card - maybe more time consuming.
First I change the size of the root system using gparted in linux. In windows You can do it with Acronis Partition expert or a similar program (with Acronis Partition expert You also can extend partition on whole size of sdcard after writing some small image on it). After resizing Root Partition I copy only half of the card with dd:

sudo dd if=/dev/sdd of=linaro-raring-server-xbmc-0.1-4gbcard.img bs=1024 count=3400000

It looks that there is no chance to copy part of disk with Win32Imager. But You can try "dd for windows" http://www.chrysocome.net/dd (http://www.chrysocome.net/dd) (Be careful to use right command and drive, otherwise You will crush Your data !!) After creating smaller image it also can be effective compressed.

Thanks for very detailed explain.

I think just using a 4 Gb SD is enougth  to keep the size under control, don't you ?

Ready image without source xbmc of course should be within 4 GB. But to compile imo better to have more space.

This distro is the first to put xbmc on A20 to work.

You've done a excelent work for sure. I don't need to compile.

Vladimir, you got the weekend back to hobbie?
Tested some new possibility to decrease the instability?
Maybe posting news does not help us. We will not let the bill "die on the beach."

Is the screen's power saving disabled?  Try this (as root):

echo 0  > /sys/class/graphics/fb0/blank

(Note: there's a space after the '0')

Vladimir,

I've printed out your history to try to replicate your steps in installing xbmc.

My goal is to put xbmc to work in Patrick distro:

http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,838.0.html

Before this, I need make sure patwood's distro don't have the same "10 minutes of live" bug.

UPDATE:
--------------------------------------------

After a little test, the Patrick's distro shows not have the "10 minutes of live" bug.

The screen was turned off after a idle time, but a keyboard hit brings it back.
I think it's easy to turn this feature off.

I'm thinking that the image is with some malformation. Constantly has shown errors "segment fault" in a simple attempt to update "apt-get update".

I never deal with these distro, so I can not comment it in any way.

By the way, I replaced the library "libve" by this: http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve (http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve)

and decoding h.264 was without pink artifacts, but unfortunately, most of the video is choppy. While the test video from http://samplemedia.linaro.org/ (http://samplemedia.linaro.org/) played great. The same as described herein: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=126995&pid=1497858#pid1497858 (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=126995&pid=1497858#pid1497858)

You may need to modify your FEX file to change pll4.  The defaults for android don't work right with linux cedarx; pll4 freq needs to be set to 960 and mali clkdiv to 3.

Hmmm, the sintel_trailer file (which exhibits the decoder problem with libve) plays fine for me on vlc, but had many problems when the pll4 freq was 300.  what H.264 file are you testing with?

The problem looks to be the "Weighted p-frame" issue.  This should be handled correctly by the libhybris cedarx libve that you used.

Do you see the same problem with Sintel trailer mentioned in the instructions: http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve here: http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/graphics/blender/apricot/trailer/sintel_trailer-1080p.mp4 (http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/graphics/blender/apricot/trailer/sintel_trailer-1080p.mp4)?  This works for me on vlc with the libhybris libraries.  I'll try downloading the file you mentioned here, but it's 700+MB so I need to make some space on my SD card for it.

I just tried the "bad_sample_h264.mkv" file with cvlc.  It is blocky with the linux libvecore and plays fine with the Android A20 libve and libhybris.

If you're still having problems with this on xbmc, you should make sure that your LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set properly *and* you're not running as root, as I've had problems with lib path searching when logged in as root.

The "10 minutes screen bug" is solved in my cubieboard linaro +xbmc

The solution
http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,838.msg4910.html#msg4910

So just add consoleblank=0 to the extraargs line in /boot/uEnv.txt to disable screen blanking:
extraargs=disp.screen0_output_mode=1280x720p60 consoleblank=0

Thanks patwood

Even with the changes (patwood+uEnv.txt) to bug the 10 minutes, the system continues to present "Segmentation fault" after changing IP and nameserver, the system hangs after start showing the RSS feed (bottom of XBMC), before anything. No internet (/ etc / resolv.conf) does not lock.

Very strange u say that you are running and stable for so long. Besides the change in uEnv.txt what else you did from the original image? Did upgrade to the new kelnel Patch - 4.6.1? Is using iso 4GB or 8GB?
I tried your script to install the NAND 4 times without success. Installation ended unsuccessfully with the same information below:
...
rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes to socket [sender]: Broken pipe (32)
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (669645 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(605) [sender=3.0.9]

Very strange

I use 4 GB image, and same original kernel 3.4.43...The process is simple

- Burn 4GB in SD Card
- Run my personal nand flash
- Remount /dev/nand3 for alter uEnv.txt
- Alter /boot/uEnv.txt, insert "consoleblank=0" in extraargs

Which leads me to believe that the image is in trouble for 8GB segmentation fault (already mentioned this before). I downloaded the file 3 times and tested all three with the same problem I'll buy a 4gb sd, and repeat the process with the image of 4GB. But being unstable, I prefer to use the sdcard and not in NAND.

Hey guys!
I´m new here and my Cubieboard is just a few weeks old too  ;D

At first I wanted to thank everyone who makes XBMC usable on the A20.

I only got 1 problem with this releases (4+8 gig)
The annoying "10 minutes of life" bug....

I wanted to edit the uEnv.txt but it´s missing
Searched the whole SD-Card for this file and didn´t find it  >:(

Do I have to create the file on my own or should it be there by default?!
Maybe the more advanced Linux users can help me solve the problem....I´m really new to that.

Thanks in advance guys!
Greetings from Germany  ;)

PS: Is it possible to get a uEnv.txt from another user to get it working?

sunxi_no_mali_mem_reserve will prevent the Mali drivers from initializing and sunxi_ve_mem_reserve will prevent cedarx.  Best to only use these on a headless system.

To me that version 0.2 is more unstable than the first. Before the screen went dark, now the system constantly restarts at the beginning of any video. I had achieved a certain stability with Debian (Cubieez - http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic, 528.0.html)

Hey Guys,

first I want to thank Vladimir for his work.
With the first Image I had some Problems:
- I cant turn on the webserver (to use a remote control software)
- Airplay Server won't work
- (the worst) I don't get any sound from the cubieboard over hdmi... :(

In the next days I will try the new testing release and will update you about my problems.

I'm really looking forward when theres one day a stable release where the most of my wishes works...

Mmh, tricky stuff. I've compiled the library myself on the linaro quantal image from patwood. The problem is, that there is no hardware support on the library for the embebbed CEC controller on the Cubie:
http://linux-sunxi.org/HDMI_CEC_(Consumer_Electronics_Control)

So I've run the cec-client command, with an HDMI cable plugged in, and all I was able to get was an error of device not found.
I´m afraid until support is added, CEC for the cubieboard is but a dream.

till now i have no luck. I tried to merge distros from rellla a10 xbmc and puse eight xbmc and compile it (at least to start work with pulse eight adapter, not with integrated controller), but libcec always stays disabled

I install de cubian A20 release r1 in cubieboard A20, Linux Kernel 3.3.0 first time

On console, clicking the TV remote samsung, answered in the command console screen, needing only fix the keymap.
Maybe use the solution Cubian, help in our problem

Interesting. What software did you use? I know for sure that the drivers are in the kernel, but also that libcec doesn't work.

I haven´t more details. Only installed in my cubieboard, and worked :D

This is a cubian r1 image download

Tried both with the same remote and a Aureal remote I've for PC, and trust me, the IR doesn't recognize it. Not even an hexdump on the /dev/input/eventxxxx (the way the cubie sees its receptor) shows anything, so it MUST has been the HDMI CEC.

It seems that only I who am not lucky with that image. I bought a new sdcard (for the case of physical problem). But version 0.2 is worse than 0.1. If the 0.1 gave white screen, the 0.2 is an excess of reboots and crashes. This is much more unstable than the other. At least for me.

To change default sound card:
go to /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf

and change

defaults.ctl.card 1
defaults.pcm.card 1
defaults.pcm.device 1

to

defaults.ctl.card 0
defaults.pcm.card 0
defaults.pcm.device 0

1 - hdmi
0 - 3.5 jack

I tried to reproduce this, and failed. Installed the cubian image you posted, booted up  in a Sony tv, and the HDMI didn't even recognize at all the cubieboard.
Did you installed anything else? A driver? Did you modprobe a module or something? Or just you did burn the image, booted up the cubie and your remote was picked up by the console?
Thanks.

As the fully compiled xbmc is for a 8GB card, is it possible to get it on the 4GB card working/compiled?
And do I need android on the nand because of libve ?

After flashing the sd card with the 4GB image, board is booting into login screen but no response from
the keyboard... can't login...

Actually, in the ubuntu repositories there are libcec2 and libcec-dev v2 available:
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/xbmc/precise/main/base/libcec2

However, I can't stress this enough: That library works only for the USB adapter from Pulse8, and NOT for the cubie hardware.

Just delete xbmca20 folder from 8gb image and You will get 4gb image. This folder contains only sources. And You don't need android on nand for libve.

Hi Vladimir !

Thanks for the tip. I mounted the image with:
sudo mount -o loop,offset=13631488 /media/rainer/LinuxData/A20-linaro-raring-server-xbmc-0.2-src-8gbcard.img /tmp/mnt/image/
Then I deleted the xmbca20 folder and unmounted it. Size of the image remains the same.

Hi !

I then wrote the Image to an 32GB USB stick. Resized the partition to under 4GB but how do I write now the new Image?
If I do it with dd it will be 32GB. With partimage I'm only able to write one partition, not both, because partimage is not writing
unused blocks, it would reduce the size....
Seems that the easiest way would be to buy a bigger microSD card.....

Vladimir could you please post a short manual of the compiling process with cedar and xbmc?

Sorry for not clean previous explanation.
The difference between 4 and 8 gb images in only one folder with sources. So You can use 4gb image with no difference if You don't intent to recompile xbmc.

But if You want to create 4gb image from 8gb, You should use this info:
(so you need 8gb (or more) card for it)
Quote from: Vladimir on September 28, 2013, 08:52:27 am

Hi Vladimir !

Did a first test and here is my feedback:
Local stored files with h264 playing ok. Decoding quality could be a little bit better, but thats a point for the guys doing the driver. Files running smoothly and its ok.
It seems that automounting is not running on xbmc, that would be fine.
Airplay seems also not working.
Remote Control via IP seems also not working (xbmc software on ipad doesn't find the cubie)
Wifi dongles, mine is an rtl based, when connected on boot, is interrupting boot process.
So Wifi would be great... also if it would be possible to add a connection within xbmc
Youtube plugin seems to work fine...
Streaming platforms such as kinox.to or similar decoding there is very choppy...
Installing addons seem to work ok...

So thanks a lot for your work... looks great for the beginning...

Try to change port of web interface and set ip manually in remote control. It should work.

I hope to use this server also as proxy :) and i got also wifi dongle, so all these things is in to do list.
At the moment I'm fighting for libcec, and unfortunately don't have enough time for it. So if You will have some progress in mentioned issues, please post in this topic.

Hello,

I will listen internetradio on my cubieboard2. I use the plugin "radio" from xbmc. The plugin started and the system freeze. The plugin sad "Can´t play the content... See logfile for details". Remote I can see (iftop is installed) xbmc is downloading.
my logfile http://pastebin.de/36741
In my opinion, a codec is not installed, but I do not know which.

I had to blacklist the rtl8192cu wifi dongle because I'm using the rtl8188cu... now its proper booting when the dongle
is inserted.
This worked on Cubian to get the dongle working...
Then I installed the network manager addon. When opening the network manager under programs then it says
the script failed.....
When I try to manually add wlan in /etc/network/interfaces and try to bringup wlan0 its not working... any hints ?
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0bda:8176 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188CUS 802.11n WLAN Adapter

I also tried installing udisks and udisks-glue for automounting usb disks or usb sticks... but its not working...
nothing shows up in /media
config file of udisks-glue looks like:
filter disks {
optical = false
partition_table = false
usage = filesystem
}

match disks {
automount = true
automount_options = { "noatime", "sync", "dmask=0000" }
}

Mounting with udisks doesn't work. Following Error comes up:
The permission of the setuid helper is not correct

As I see on my ubuntu that the google chrome browser is smoother playing streams than firefox, i see the same results
compared between raspbmc on the raspi and xbmc on cubie.
so any way to get smoother playback for streams on cubie/xbmc? youtube plays ok. would be great to have same
performance on streams like these from ecostream etc.... :)

thx

You may be having a conflict between the file(s) in /etc/network and network manager.  I believe that network manager uses configuration files in /etc/NetworkManager, and it doesn't play well with the definitions in /etc/network: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkManager

But was it working (and connecting) before you installed network manager?  That's not entirely clear from your original question, but is very important information.

Currently, on linux, the cedarx HW isn't integrated with X windows, so it's not going to work with browsers or any X based video players.  There is an ongoing project to get it working with X, but that's still in its infancy. You may have read about using libvdpau with cedarx and mplayer2; this is an early result of this project.

Can someone shed some light about what does the linaro-server distribution contain?

Is it a full distribtution? Debian based? Can we install additional packages, other than the pre-installed XBMC, in a manageable way? (like apt-get, pacman, etc.)

Thanks

Hey guys,

I tested the 0.2 verison too.
I'm very glad about it, I can use it now nearly productive ;)
I recognized this issues:
- Adding an SMB Source for videos won't work (in music it works...but it can be a problem in my network)
- Airplay doesn't work

I don't played any videos, because I need only the music functionality and the streaming functions.

Thank you again Vladimir for your good work!!!

I'm pretty sure this build is based on the linaro 13.04 that I uploaded.  First, try to get the wifi working without installing any additional network managers.  I added this to my /etc/network/interfaces file:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
    wpa-ssid YOUR-NETWORK-NAME
    wpa-psk YOUR-NETWORK-KEY

replacing YOUR-NETWORK-NAME with your router's SSID (note: case sensitive) and YOUR-NETWORK-KEY with your WPA or WPA2 key.  This should work -- I'm logged into my home network with it right now with an RTL8188cus dongle.

It's linaro-based (thus the name "linaro-server", which is ubuntu based, which appears to be based on wheezy/sid (I'm not really up to date on the ubuntu ancestral tree).  Full?  Define full.  apt-get should work just fine.  The original distro was based on the developer rootfs here: https://releases.linaro.org/13.04/ubuntu/quantal-images (or maybe on the 12.10 image -- better check with Vladimir to be sure).

The original distro was based on the developer rootfs here: https://releases.linaro.org/13.04/ubuntu/quantal-images (or maybe on the 12.10 image -- better check with Vladimir to be sure).

Linaro 13.08 - http://releases.linaro.org/13.08/ubuntu/highbank/linaro-raring-server-20130826-474.tar.gz (http://releases.linaro.org/13.08/ubuntu/highbank/linaro-raring-server-20130826-474.tar.gz)

Oops!  Thanks.  So it's a server distro, not developer, which means lots more packages installed like apache2, but no X11, right?

Good morning all,

Can someone shed some light about what does the linaro-server distribution contain?

Is it a full distribtution? Debian based? Can we install additional packages, other than the pre-installed XBMC, in a manageable way? (like apt-get, pacman, etc.)

Thanks
fiod

It's linaro-based (thus the name "linaro-server", which is ubuntu based, which appears to be based on wheezy/sid (I'm not really up to date on the ubuntu ancestral tree).  Full?  Define full.  apt-get should work just fine.  The original distro was based on the developer rootfs here: https://releases.linaro.org/13.04/ubuntu/quantal-images (or maybe on the 12.10 image -- better check with Vladimir to be sure).

Thank you very much Pat.
This makes this image much more appealing to me.

Another question:
I've set up my cubie2 as a transmission download server. It is connected to a 100Mbit LAN. Yet, the download speeds I'm experiencing is a lot slower than when I connect my laptop.

I though it may have something to do with the fact that I was trying to download directly to the SD card, so I switch to download directly to my external HDD. Still - the download speed does not exceed 500kbs while with my laptop I get around 4000kbs.

Does anyone have an idea why that might happen?

As far as I know, the current limit with up-to-date kernel drivers is about 6MB/s (around 50/60 mbit) on the LAN. To test your speed, you can also download the file with wget and put it in /dev/null or something (use "wget -O /dev/null https://blabla.com/file") like that so it will not use the sata/mmc/usb drivers.

The emac driver you have is probably lacking DMA support which slows it down a lot. I don't know which kernel you are running so this is just a guess.

It could also be your SD card (don't know about the HDD), as the max speed of non-continuous writes is about 500k/s (because of read-erase-write cycles inside the sd card), but you mentioned a hdd also doesn't work so that's probably not the problem.

iperf is a tool for testing raw network performance; it's typically run on two systems on the same local network, preferably on a switch and not a hub.  It simply transfers IP data packets, so there's no file I/O or additional protocol overhead (e.g., http).

Thanks a lot again. I'll review the post above and see how it goes.

Another question: anyone knows how to configure automatic mount underthis Linaro-Server?
i.e. I would like that my external HDD would be automatically mounted to a pre-defined location (option 1) or dynamically mounted (like modern linux distros, option 2) after I plug it into the USB conncetor.

Thanks

To build a new kernel, you need the sunxi (allwinner) kernel headers, which are different from the linux mainline.  I don't know anyone hosting just the headers, so you have to use git to pull them from github.  The trick is knowing which branch/repo was used.  I *think* this kernel was built using mine, so you can do:

git clone https://github.com/patrickhwood/linux-sunxi
cd linux-sunxi
git checkout cedar

But check with Vladimir just to be sure.

hey guys,
fist Thank you to get that amazing distro for the cubie2 to work with xbmc and that on :)

i come from germany and i need to have an german keyboard layout to have the right text-input because i don't know all US keyboard keys to get the right commands ;)

so it would be nice to have a way to change the keyboard layout i can't do it with the dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-layout because the german locale is missing in the "setup-list"

is there a way to change that?

my linux practise is not enough to change the kernel.... so it would be nice to get some help for it and i think some other people have the same problem?
so for this threat it is too much to write an how-to compile a new kernel with all support of some other languages so it is an "todo" for the new release i prefer this image for the cubie as my real fav.

I doubt you'll need to recompile the kernel to change the keyboard settings -- that was for a different question.

Maybe you need to generate the locale: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Locale

Maybe you need to install language-pack-de

From time to time I have to remember that Cubieboard is a sign of experimentation and not a final product.
Were a final product for Media Center would fail before the first step. While hardware much less robust as raspeberry are other more advanced stage, the Cubie's crawling (and I think that will remain so for a long time) when it comes to pay MediaCenter.
In the end I end up asking myself is that I did the right way, buying a Ferrari to be directed by trainees when it comes to XBMC, or should have opted for a popular car driven by experts?
Even because, when it comes to internships, and part of them being me, I'm a perfect ignoramus programming and totally dependent breakers to the lines of code in programming.
Maybe even tomorrow I'm convinced it is better for me to leave soon for a finished product (for XBMC) and turn off the frustration with the Cubie V2 ...

Features:

The kernel has been updated to version 3.4.61+ from image found at
http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubieboard/lubuntu/cb-a20-lubuntu-12.10-v1.06/cb2-lubuntu-server-20131026/ (http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubieboard/lubuntu/cb-a20-lubuntu-12.10-v1.06/cb2-lubuntu-server-20131026/)

Root filesystem is completely changed to the rootfs from above mentioned image.

Playing some h.264 files become smoother. Some others files h.264, which previously played normally, now slow down. :) Once playing such file xbmc was crashed.
But even when using a native linux blob of libve (now installed by default) is no longer pink artifacts.

Fixed :
Lirc
Airplay
Shutdown/Reboot
USB Autoplug

Installed:
Webmin. To access via webmin type in the browser: https://(YOUR LINARO-SERVER IP):10000

Just in case - logins/passwords
linaro/linaro
root/root
admin/admin (for webmin)

Issues/Bugs (new kernel - new issues :) )
In the left part of the screen periodically visible light artifacts.
Continuing problems with playing h.264 as mentioned above.
CEC still not available.

Lirc: You should customize your remote control. I didn't it totally for myself, because I do not plan to use it, but I can suggest You to read key codes using irw /dev/lircd, write it down, and then change your Lircmap.xml as it says here : http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=How-to:Setup_Lirc

After dd use gparted to expand the partition on the remaining space of sd card.
I decided not to waste time to upload 8gb image. If you want to recompile xbmc - simply extend the second partition by using gparted on the 8gb card and take xbmca20 folder from the previous image, or begin anew with http://linux-sunxi.org/XBMC

Good luck, and enjoy fighting with new version :)

Quick question, wich remote did you tested the LIRC interface? I had no luck whatsoever wether using a Samsung TV Series C remote nor with my WMC Usb remote.
You're not using the android cedar drivers, I assume?

My remote - Samsung BN59-00940A. With not modified Lircmap.xml all buttons are mixed.
If try to change lircd.conf - nothing works. It seems that there is only way to adjust Lircmap.xml in xbmc.

About version 0.3 .

Vladimir know you have worked hard to ensure that this distro to work. I followed his participation in two forums trying to find solutions to ongoing problems . Congratulations on the engagement .

But even in this version the problems remain and some have worsened . For me the issue of reboot , shutdown and crash persists ... and now more steadily. Honestly . In videos of 720P onwards ( including Youtube ) the slow is terrible ( this, in my view, was a regression ) . It seems something related to buffer or codec ( ffmpeg ) . The videos under 720P ( Youtube ) , to begin to play , but after 1 minute the screen lock and just restarting . Me twice appeared pink screen ( to replace the white screen ) . In all the videos I tested the audio 're very bad . Is disappearing and returning with constancy.
Segmentation fault constant. I found that the problem is not ssd . I installed Android on it to take the doubt and worked without problems .
I wish other people verificassem these issues pointed out, if possible.

I'm discouraged !

I believe my plaquinha not like Linaro / Ubuntu.
I installed the Debian version (http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic, 946.0.html) and finally got to watch a movie almost entirely smoothly. One important detail that I realized: this release Linaro, CPU usage without touching anything goes to 70% usage. In Debian, the same situation, is 13-20%. Clear that Debian needs tweaking (changing the sound setting for HDMI black screen - not solved with parameters Env.txt and locking keyboard and mouse after a while - what was happening in the picture of the Linaro 0.1). But it was the only time I could watch a movie without completely freezes or crashes XBMC using the Cube.

I had read about it in the XBMC forum and posted a few days ago that had compiled XBMC in Cubiez and was more stable ... XBMC works better in Ubuntu than in Debian.

many thanks for your hard job about this firmware and the new 0.3 version but for me the 0.2 version is much more stable with xbmc to play bluray iso for example in network streaming for example . what do u use to compil ? I would to help you in unpacking your distro or re-compil with modifications ... For information i test via xbmc a lot of audio and video format by giga network streaming .

cd /allwinner/xbmc-pvr-binhf/lib
mv libvecore.so libvecore.so.old_native_linux_blob
ln -s /usr/local/hybris/lib/libvecore.so libvecore.so

This library is compiled and is present in the system. I tried to play the video with it, it also worked with stuttering video. Apparently one of the causes of instability is that the currently used native library. After switching to a http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve as mentioned above, results may be more satisfactory, but still far from ideal.

Vladimir, I would try some solutions that u found in your distro, in Cubian which was launched yesterday. You can share with us how you managed to solve the following problems:
1. White screen (the change in the fex extraarg not work in Debian);
2. Lock the keyboard and mouse after a few minutes of inactivity;
3. How often do you set the FEX for gpu and cpu?
4. You used some additional parameter?
5. How to resolve the problem of artifacts pink?

in all my versions all arguments in fex are unchanged except screen resolution and cpu freq
in 0.3 also changed resolution of framebuffer
about White screen - have no idea yet
I just starting to test new cubian xbmc image

2. Lock the keyboard and mouse after a few minutes of inactivity;

It looks similar to 10 min bug fron v0.1 of my image.

my uEnv.txt:
extraargs=disp.screen0_output_mode=1920x1080p60 consoleblank=0

my rc.Local:
echo 0 > /sys/class/graphics/fbcon/cursor_blink
nohup /usr/bin/flock -w 600 /var/tmp/xbmc.lock xbmc &
echo -e '\033[9;0]' > /dev/tty1
echo 0  > /sys/class/graphics/fb0/blank

5. How to resolve the problem of artifacts pink?

by changing libve to hybris as mentioned in my previous post (for patwood's kernel in my images 0.1 and 0.2)
or after changing kernel in version 0.3

hope it helps

ok vladimir ,

i can connect me by ssh over my network with pc linux raring x64 or pc windows 7 x64 as i want ... i tried to switch on libhybris library over 0.2 version with this :

cd /allwinner/xbmc-pvr-binhf/lib
mv libvecore.so libvecore.so.old_native_linux_blob
ln -s /usr/local/hybris/lib/libvecore.so libvecore.so

i confirme that you ever said about results still far from ideal cause no big diffrence for me cause 0.2 is already stable ... do you have any idea about chopping stream  mkv or mp4 containers with avc and ac3 or dts ( info mediainfo ) ?It's very strong cause my avc stream is good with bluray iso and bluray 3d iso !

best regards

After testing the Debian version of XBMC , I could fix some bugs emblematic pointed here (which are not limitations of the GPU or CPU ) and come to some conclusions :

1. The flaws pointed out some videos on the player ( pink or white screen , flickt , instability , etc. ) , are not problems of the GPU but the lack of perfect compatibility with mali player ( even when I used external player - mplayer and omxplayer ) .
2 . Many youtube videos and iptv ( rtmp player with integrated) run perfectly because run with independent player . On youtube there is only problem when the video codec for ogg ( unfortunately) . There are also problems when there is mismatch between the encoder and colorspacer that was configured in script.bin to mali .

It would be interesting to have access to a firmware of a plaque A20 (or penTV ) that runs XBMC and external hardware is similar to Cubie A20 . Investigating playercorefactory.xml the userdata folder , verify that they are using external player or modified the XBMC DVDPlayer and then solve many of the problems Cubie A20 in XBMC .

Reaffirm that after I installed the Debian version of XBMC and reseted the settings of XBMC , added hints of Vladimir XBMC , installed codecs and additional problem is only with ogg and videos with different RGB colorspace . No crashes, no white screen , no reboot , etc. ...

No problems ... What can I use to generate the image (My i resized to 8GB)?

I also try to reproduce the sequence of commands that I did to reset XBMC, since many custom changes that were made to the hardware (remote control) to use. And to use the IPTV SimpleTV plugins (which work 100% on rtmp addresses that use external player videos even in 1080 and 720P) and Plex addon.

Hi and thanks again Vladimir.

I've testet this image, too.

I have only trouble with airplay and sometimes with upnp.
Airplay crashes if I want to view something(in most cases it crashes), connection with XBMC Remote is then not possible.
With Airplay and UPNP I have the problem that the sound is fine, but the video is in slowmotion.
I the version before UPNP worked very fine.

I haven't tested any videos, beacause I need only the sound and Airplay/UPNP functionalities.
Webmin worked fine for me.

Vladimir, sorry have not posted yet the image. It happens that I used cunian cubian-update and updated the kernel to 3.4.67 + that is incompatible with the drivers and codecs (mali / cedar) generated. But this week I return to the version before the upgrade, redo the image and post it here.

I'm sorry for the file size. My sdcard is 8GB and I used rezisefs (http://cubian.org/2013/08/12/enlarge-cubian-rootfs-partition/). But I am compiling another version with ffmpeg set to HW in a20 and will not use resizefs. When you are ready I do an update.

What have I done?

I compiled manually codecs and containers: x264, aac, ogg, mp3, mkv, sox, gpac, libvpx, flac... And upgraded package for Debian extra codecs , including ffmpeg (That I make sure to build the future specifically for the A20. Unfortunately the space in SSDCard was insufficient to  it) .
Updated - compiled - librtmp (stream) .
Corrected sound settings for HDMI .
Changed configuration clock GPU and CPU script.bin.
Fixed crashes and crash restart (as directed by Vladimir/Patwood)
Compiled and changed the libvecore.so (as directed by Vladimir)
Included official versions and alternatives of various addons (Plex, Crackle*, Simple IPTV, Youtube, etc.).
Included upgraded apache and python ( to help fix buffer stream http ) .
Included DNLA and MediaServer .
Installed manager Ajenti (https://ip:8000 | root:admin)
Installed and configured ssl .
Additional configuration for advacedsettings.xml and other tweaks xbmc.
Ethernet IP set to Fixed (edit: /etc/network/interfaces )
Updated various libraries xbmc .

I kept the list with IPTV rtmp - filmOn - protocol ( SD ) so that when you check the address of the stream has " swfUrl = " The XBMC player is not used. Thus there is no problem with the image ( even in 1080P resolution ) . This can be seen in Youtube videos (the XBMC player is not used) .

can you please recompile the next image with XBMC pvr-support. That would be wonderful.
Another question. Can you please in the next image enable the bluetooth-support (for wireless logitech keyboard). I don´t know how I can do it. I think many users have the same problem with wireless keyboards from logitech.

Thanks

Me not faced slowdowns.
One thing I would like to optimize putting the folder with the downloaded source files before compilation: XBMC, Mali, Cedar, etc., on a different partition. As patição standard (with nothing added) is almost 100% usage, I suppose this should interfere with performance. IPTV is functioning normally.

I have one information regarding the last image of Vladimir.
The DLNA support doesnt work anymore properly....When I want to play some videos from Youtube on the cubieboard, it says that the URL can't be found...
It will be great wenn this works in the next release. I'm really looking forward to it.
Good work guys, don't hurry up. I'm very happy that anybody makes this images!

Why not :) In any case, still no way how to make 100% good video playback. So time to work on other things.

tar -xvf webmin-1.660.tar.gz

- The principle. Can not test this code now - writing by memory, so do not be surprised if something will not work.

Playing some h.264 files become smoother. Some others files h.264, which previously played normally, now slow down. :) Once playing such file xbmc was crashed.
But even when using a native linux blob of libve (now installed by default) is no longer pink artifacts.

Lirc

Can you add hidraw in kernel next version?
I have logtech k400 key board ,the Unifying receiver need hidraw.
thx.

CONFIG_HIDRAW=y

Hello,

many thanks for your work! I have the image of V0.3 installed on a Cubietruck (Cubiebord 3). This works very well and fast!

The problem: I get no internet connection. The IP address and the MAC address are always empty.

Attached is the Cubietruck with a network cable. Wlan is not used.

Do you have any idea what I could do?

what does a dmesg shows? I'm not sure if the CT has the same NIC than the CB2, and thus the drivers are the same.

Enter the command dmesg.

Also, the Ethernet phy is different on the ct, so a20 kernels have the Ethernet driver loadable instead of built in.  Try running

modprobe sunxi-gmac

to load the driver.

Hi all,
I'm trying to build a similar image of Linaro-Server-XBMC for CubieTruck, using Patwood's Kernel 3.4.67 (posted here (http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,1101.msg6727.html#msg6727)), Linaro Rootfs (http://releases.linaro.org/13.11/ubuntu/highbank/linaro-raring-server-20131124-562.tar.gz), native XBMC (compiled using this tutorial (http://linux-sunxi.org/XBMC#Building_XBMC_for_A10)) and CedarX (http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve).
XBMC runs fine but it can't play MP4 or MKV files... I'm almost a noob, and I suppose that some libraries are missing, how can I compile them for XBMC? There's a tutorial?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

when will be a new version available? I'm really looking forward to it.
I have a surgery in a few days and then enough time to test ;)

What do you think, will it be one day be a version available which can play 1080p HD Videos....?
It's really sad that the cubieboard 2 has a lot of more power than the raspberry, but can't play those videos becaus of the MALI driver :(

Let me start by saying thank you Vladimir and well done!

I bought my Cubiebox2 about three weeks ago, to replace a borrowed Raspberry Pi. I was initially disappointed that I was unable to set up a working XBMC on it. However installing your second build (I found the third build had caused the video to stutter) has made that possible, and I am now much happier.

But (there is always a but) there are a few issues with it, and I post to get some guidance from you.

I have three machines, one is Windows 7 which has XBMC installed, one is a VM within Windows which runs Ubuntu and MySQL server. I have set up XMBC to use MySQL to store all the information. Adding a Raspberry Pi was just a matter of copying the advancedsettings.xml, sources.xml and passwords.xml files over, and it worked perfectly. However on my Cubiebox2 it does not work. It connects to all the shares, but does not pull the information from the MySQL database. While looking through the /root/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log file, I noticed that it contains the lines:

ERROR: MySQL library requested but MySQL support is not compiled in. Falling back to sqlite3.

I was obviously wondering if that was the cause, or do I need to look elsewhere. I have read every post in your thread but can find nothing that would assist.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again for the time and effort you have put into this, you are making a lot of people very happy.

Hi Vladimir !

2 questions please:
I have an add-on which installs not correct. On raspbmc it's working fine.
I have it for download here:
dcs.co.at/files/plugin.video.xstream-2.1.2.zip (http://dcs.co.at/files/plugin.video.xstream-2.1.2.zip)
Could you please check it if it's working on your side?

Then I have a rtl8188cus wifi dongle. Do you install it via the network manager program inside of xbmc or
direct on linux side?
Webadmin is running but couldn't wifi working there...

thx

I can use sudo with user cubie, but in some cases it would be easier to be logged in as root.

Looks like my xbmc compiled without necessary MySQL support (if it's possible) or there are some mysql libraries missed in server image. You can try to install some additional mysql components with apt-get or try to recompile complete xbmc.

Thanks Vladimir for your reply.

I think I will wait until Gotham is released and look at what others are doing as regard builds.

Without proper hardware decoding, my Cubie is just gathering dust. But if there is some movement on releasing code to enable the hardware to perform at the level that made me buy it in the first place, I may have to learn how to build from source.

If I track down why the "standard" XBMC build does not include SQL support, should I post it here? Is it of interest to you?

Best.

Hi Vladimir,

are you going to make a new release or are you waiting for the cubietech guys to make a "good" release?
If you are going to make a new one, I have little feedback regarding the 0.3 image.
- Airplay causes crash of the system
- Sometimes when I restart (or the system crashes) xbmc forget the config (webserver/unpn/Airplay/ports) - why?
- And I cant play HD videos (I know, not new topic).

Thanks

Since the purchase of CB2, I probably waited more than a month until the developers or someone else will make the image with XBMC. Now I'm waiting for the new kernel / drivers / cedarx to solve the basic problem with playback. I hope as well that I will find the time to try to solve the problems of which you speak. But certainly, it would be just perfect to see the finished image from the developers working out of the box.

Well, this is a CB2 XBMC, and the CT isn't a CB2.  Specifically, the differences between CB2 and CT distros are: memory size (CB2 is 1GB), wifi (CT has GB ethernet), and wifi (CB2 doesn't have one built in, and the CT's isn't supported by the standard set of drivers on the CB2's kernel).

As patwood stated here ( http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,1331.0.html ),  1080p HW-Decoding should be possible using the 75+-Kernel.....
Should we use this one, to get a smooth playback in xbmc? Using libhybris wouldn't bother me

I'm new in using Cubieboard and Linux. I found excellent version, but I can not mount the sata hd. In WebAdmin can see the partition, but do not know where to find it in XBMC. Can anyone help me?
Vladmir congratulations for the excellent work, and I forgive the English Google-Translator.

theres 2 screen output lines one is a number to tell it what the display is vga hdmi etc other is for resolution i think

perhaps easier to start your own thread but looking at what you did i am sure that is wrong

Is it possible to make a package from xbmc or is there another way of installing xbmc from this image
to an existing Linaro-Server running already on a cubietruck?

The videos in 720p and 1080p are slow and do not play correctly. The rest (music, photos, SAMBA server) are ok.
Any suggestions configuration of XBMC?
Thank you!

Vladimir, need I update the catalog?
I'm out for a long time and lost the update track.

Please check http://www.cubieboard.cmabreu.com.br (http://www.cubieboard.cmabreu.com.br) if your last version is there.

Thanks!

Is your video over network? (remote drive, etc...).
Try to put your video inside the cubie card.

Hello to all!

Which version on XBMC is installed here?
Which player is used to see the HD movies? The internal player?

Thanks for the informations!
