Title: Cubieez, Debian 7.3 ARMHF CT&CB2 version NAND+SD + XBMC
Post by: drkbcn on January 20, 2014, 04:29:46 am
I'm proud to present Cubieez, a Debian 7.3 with kernel 3.4.75, adapted from de original Cubieez A10 version for Cubieboard 2 (A20) and Cubietruck.

(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BeW4rdSCYAAtFDv.png:large)

Whats new on Cubieez 1.0 (CT):

Some features of Cubieez for CT A20:

Info:
users: root / cubie
unified password: cubieboard (change it on first boot, please)
Default IP: 192.168.1.124 (edit /etc/network/interfaces)

A nameserver must be added to: /etc/resolv.conf (nameserver 8.8.8.8 )

Download "1.0" 3.4.75 from:

Download Cubieez 1.0 (Cubietruck A20 version) (https://mega.co.nz/#!iIJxlACQ!ShCBEAo0MzNxnJ_lxJDtTkxULm0pggSeDqRlVclK0_Y) (478 MB, md5: pending)

Download "Debieez" (NAND port of Cubieez done by Cubietech) (http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubietruck/debian/debieez/) (582 MB, md5: pending)

Download XBMC binaries (Beta):

XBMC binaries for A10,A20 (compiled by Juan Font @juanfont) (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0Bw3ZhGe0wLEIZ1Q3TnY4TmkwNVU/edit?usp=drive_web)

To make XBMC work:

Just uncompress on "/" and run "/allwinner/xbmc-pvr-binhf/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin".

And install:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install libssh-4 libmicrohttpd10 libtinyxml2.6.2 libyajl2 liblzo2-2 libpython2.7 libpcrecpp0 libhal1 libhal-storage1

Working on Cubieboard 2 replacing the attached "script.bin" (rename "script.cubie2" to "script.bin").

EDIT: Added NAND version done by Cubietech team :) Thanks to Benn and all Cubietech team for their support.

I tested this version and I got a problem with the screen resolution. I'm not able to change it, xrandr is not able to recognize the display (and two others) properly.
does the wifi radar works with WPA2 encrypted network?

Bravo!! It's a great distribution! 2D working (it doesn't have the 3D tests). I've tested it a little bit and I've some suggestions:

- Add the sunxi tests (I've tried to find them in the test folder of /root, but there's only the GLXgears).
- Video doesn't plays at fullscreen, it's always at the original size.
- The audio doesn't play at the first boot. You must put it at the hdmi output and reboot it.

It could be great to have:

- Compiled XBMC (maybe the openpctv distribution could give us some clues about how to compile it).
- Bluetooth (When the module driver works well, i hope soon).
- Transmission client (the client that exists now in the repo it's a bit old...).

Thanks a lot! If you need to test things let me know :)

I am not able to download from MEGA on firefox ubuntu. I did it 3 times,
each time different file size. Two files were downloaded:
Cubieez_1.0.0_Cubietruck-1.7z  Cubieez_1.0.0_Cubietruck.7z
The second one has size 0 bytes. Could you please put the image
somewhere under http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubietruck/debian/ ?
Many thanks in advance.

You must edit your network interface.
1. log in as root.
2. open /etc/network/interfaces
3. delete static configuration
4. paste this one:

Code: [Select]
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid mynetworkname
wpa-psk mywpa/wpa2key

5. save it and reboot
6. log in as cubie or defaut, than it should work

Don't worry about that because xvmc can't play videos at fullscreen resolution. I'm going to release XBMC binaries for A10, A20 and CT working smooth and without major problems this weekend  8)

If you don't want to wait for XBMC try this and let me know:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-sunximali
sudo usermod -a -G video cubie

Set Gnome Mplayer to use xv at Preferences.

Just flash it to your SD and replace de script.bin with the attached one at the first post. I can't teach you about USB over IP, I've never used before.

Hi:

if you use linux, you can write it using the "dd" command:
sudo dd bs=1M image.raw of=dev/sdc

in windows i use http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ for producing the SD

hi drkbcn, I've another question for you... i don't know if it's possible, but it could be great to know how did you do everything.

I mean, a documentation about how to create the debian base image, to compile the specific stuff, the kernel corrections etc.

I know that it could be a lot of work, but it could help a lot of people to know how to do the same and improve the community, but the leak of information...

But yes, thanks a lot for all, i'll take a look to your advances! Y tu blog siempre me ha encantado :D

Great Image, thanks for your work.

I have one problem though:

The partitions of the sd card get automatically mounted to /media on boot.
And it seems the same is being tried with my external hdd, but the hdd is encrypted and booting ends in a loop.
I have to unplug the hdd, then boot to login screen, then plug the hdd in to boot successfully.

How can I change this behavior?

thanks for your work!

If you only need access via vnc (no monitor etc), try tightvnc and setup as per http://www.elinux.org/RPi_VNC_Server

works fine (it's what I'm using on both RPi and cubietruck)

==================

At the OP,

there are a couple of errors in your rc.local that make it drop out and never get to the cpu frequency assignments (so it's actually running at 960MHz, not 1008).

Also, is it possible to get the module(s) to allow both performance AND ondemand governors to be used as required, I'm using this as a more general purpose/server role and don't need it flat out all the time.

Is there anything else in your rc.local file?  If anything else fails before your program runs, it'll exit.  Also, did you test your program standalone from the command line?  Did you specify the full path to the program, starting from /?

I sure hope those spaces around the / character aren't actually in your files, or they won't work.

Try this from your command line logged in as root:

Code: [Select]
/usr/bin/oscam
Without the spaces and without the &; let us know what happens.

Like I mentioned in a previous post:

Quote

So put the line

Code: [Select]
/usr/local/bin/oscam &
at the beginning of /etc/rc.local, not the end, in case one of the other commands is failing.

The ondemand cpu governor is no more in the current .75 kernel.  Delete the enties from rc.local witch has reference to that.

Well, it doesn't matter if ondemand is supported or not -- your rc.local disables it and enables performance, so these lines:

Code: [Select]
echo 25 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ondemand/up_threshold
echo 10 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ondemand/sampling_down_factor
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/ondemand/io_is_busy

will cause errors because those files "disappear" when the governor is changed from ondemand to something else.  So yes, those lines at a minimum should be removed.

This line:

Code: [Select]
echo mmc0 > /sys/class/leds/green\:ph20\:led1/trigger
sets up your green led to flash when there's activity on the SD card. It will fail if the script.bin for your image doesn't enable this led.

the green led is actually

/sys/class/leds/green:ph07:led4

so the set for mmc0 fails as it's trying to echo to a non existant file..

Did you mount a partiton of that sdcard? You shouldn't do that when dd' ing an image.

Good day!
I am a novice in Debian, anyone can help to change the system to switch to VGA monitor (and optionally 1920x1080 mode), a big problem with HDMI connection on older monitors.

Probably requires modification stcript.bin? This can be done directly in the system?

Did this version have a static MAC address?

Static MAC can be changed with uEnv.txt (mac_addr=XX.XX.XX.XX.XX.XX)

Your "promised" solution works for CubieBoard2 but not for the Cubietruck ... I read a lot about a new u-boot file but didn't find a working one.

Any suggestion from you ? - by the way I fixed the MAC via the "interface" file at the moment

hi:

CB2 has 100mb ethernet, the driver is called EMAC . on this board the MAC adress can be configured in script.bin

CT has gigalan ethernet , the driver used is called gmac, for some reason , in this case the Mac has to be configured on the kernel module, because the script.bin configuracion is ignored.

Hello all!

As I see it, program called macchanger does the same, but in one line. Also with auto edit /etc/network/interfaces and restarting services.
All this, of course solution, but why not work through the adapter driver parameters-that's what's interesting. And in Cubie1/2 forum full of other solutions that do not work here.

Morning to ALL

A very nice Image. It´s the best and fastest I tried so far.

How can I find out if the Opengl driver works with the GPU?

If I run glxgears it have 45FPS at standard window size and I think it cames from the CPU and not from the GPU.

Gplayer shows no video if try xv as dafault and with xvmc I can´t make full screen, the X11 config is to slow.

Some commands or programms which I can try to fixing this problems.

I have a hard disk usb3 with 2TB and the mbr and all the data on it ware damaged bei the Cubietruck Andoid. So now I can´t connect it to this image or do anything with it on cubietruck. It hags if I try to connect. On my Windows PC I can´t initialize it or make new partition on it.
I tried with testdisk and other programms. Now I want just make a new partition on it so I can use it again. The data on it doesn´t metter.

Maybe somebody can help me.

Thanks a lot for you work and keep going!

Sorry for little offtopic..

On Win/PC side: for recover your data try "R-Studio" software- constant and fastest result. For damaged MBR and other logical problem on HDD I use "MHDD" (DOS-mode program, 1 floppy disk req.)- fill zero blocks first 1-3Mb , after that- full check HDD. This is the bestest low-level diag-tool for hdd. Have to connect the drive to SATA controller. Maybe PM for details ?  ;)

If all ok- connect to Cubieboard and use "gparted" in X session (install it before) for partitioning..
In linux "dd" path is more correct, this can be done directly on the machine (overwriting the first sectors).

It's mac_addr, not mac_str.  Same for the kernel arguments, so you can set the MAC address in uEnv.txt.

Hi, read the first post, use the dd command.

After being an idiot, I've found the apt-get install program and..... It works really nice!

EDIT: I've tried it a little bit, here my sugestions.

- Add a input in the lightdm / gdm to start it automatically. Sometimes there are some painting conflict problems (screensaver, cpu meter, etc) showing of in the screen.
- When I play video it's a bit slow, and sometimes i got some glitches. I don't know if we need the sunxi_cedar_mod module or only is a problem of executing it with the SD card. Maybe installing the NAND image / moving it to the hard disk could be a solution?

Thanks a lot!!

Hi:

ive just tested XBMC, it works quite well,i have some questions:

1 Samba issue : i would like to play files over SAMBA, when i try to add a video file source with samba i get an error. it looks like there is something missing in this xbmc binary?

2. when i exit xbmc sometimes i can get to the desktop, it just get "freezed"

3. when i start xbmc the cursor is allways visible where it was when xbmc started

4. the audio output is disabled on this distro by default when you boot first time? i allways have to deal with the audio config to get it work, not sure if i do something wrong.

Thanks for sharing your work, mate :D

Using this image now for about a week. Works great and will try to add xbmc as described this weekend...
Only thing i'm running into is: When i'm not using the hdmi (it's connected to my onkyo receiver) because i switched to an other source i wont get my screen back. So i tried the following: moved the CT to the HDMI in on my TV and switched it off, then after a while turned the tv back on, i get the same problem.
Then i tried to restart the lightdm service through ssh, but that wont work either (i also disabled the screensaver..) Does anyone have an idea??

so am I doning something wrong or is it normal that the xbmc does not work with mkv files?

I mean it works kind of ^^ but I tried it over sftp and over samba and even kind of localy it stutters. And some picture errors happen like pink colored in frames ^^.

With 720p Youtube material it kind of works mostly ok. I did not get a total crash but if I quit xbmc the normal screen get black artifacts.

So if thats normal right now its ok. Just want to make shure that its not my hdmi-> dvi adapter.

Another question in Kernel 3.12 CedarX got merged right?
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTQ1NjE

So why are there no images availible with newer kernel verisons than 3.4?

I get thats maybe a "arm thing", but could somebody explain my why you need 2 year old kernels or so?

2. when i exit xbmc sometimes i can get to the desktop, it just get "freezed"

3. when i start xbmc the cursor is allways visible where it was when xbmc started

I've seen this too, i don't know if it's a graphic problem, but sometimes the desktop / console overrides the XBMC.

A workaround is to execute the XBMC via lightdm, as another desktop option.

Another option is stopping the lightdm service and start XBMC with a Ctrl+Alt+F1 console

By the way, ive tested some videos that doesn't goes nice (pink glitches, bad video definitions...), but with the normal video player goes fine.

I'll try to move the root directory to the hard disk one of these days and see if it's due to some speed problems...

We use cedarx for driving the video encoder. On SunXi-Wiki  (http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX)is a discription, which formats are supported.

The real question is what does supported mean, I have here 720p x264 what should be compatible to h264, so its supported. it does run, at least better than the hardware would be capable of.
And its now the question does all the videos with the listet codeds run perfectly, no glitches? I dont think so.

So if some material would run perfect and its really only a problem with having x264 encoded files (I think x264 is a implementation of a h264 encoder) what format would work perfectly then I could maybe use a dlna server or upnp to transcode it on the fly.

The 3.4 kernel is a Allwinner branch and is maintained by allwinner. The Sunxi comunity does a lot of effort to upstream Allwinner SoC support to the main kernel line. read the Sunxi wiki for more details (http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort)

thx for that link.

Please, build xbmc with airplay support. And with current version xbmc play 1080p h264 video very slow.
For disable cursor blink use "echo 0 > /sys/class/graphics/fbcon/cursor_blink" and  "echo 1 > /sys/class/graphics/fbcon/cursor_blink" for restore.

your post implies that 720p h264 video would be fast?
I dont have that experience, on my cubietruck its pretty buggy (picture-bugs) and slow/laggish, too.
With the cubuntu image at least 720p in smplayer works perfectly.

I can wait for better stuff, but I read here sometimes stuff that implies that other people have different experience with 720p h264 and xbmc than I do?

So does 720p h264 in xbmc run clean and fast?

do you use the nand version I use the sdcard version.

I testet it just out again, strange now directly on my beamer so no hdmi-dvi converter between.

I tried it over sftp and over samba the cubiuntu image works at least 720p mkv files are no problem so it cant be wlan or something like that.

would be happy when that woudl work I did all said on the first page... except script2.bin thing because I have a cubietruck no cb2.

I use the latest version of /system/lib from http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubietruck/android/ct-nand-v1.01-20140110.img.gz and libhybris from https://github.com/ssvb/libhybris, latest kernel from https://github.com/patrickhwood/linux-sunxi/tree/pat-3.4.75-ct.
XBMC not always plays the same file. He can  play or not play video. I do not understand why.
I think that I will start working with a source of xbmca10 from https://github.com/rellla/xbmca10 Maybe I will solve this problem.

can anybody confiirm 1080p videos playing smooth on any video player e.g. VLC, Gnome Video Player, Totem, Banshee (doesn't matter about XBMC)?

Is Mali CedarX GPU acceleration enabled by default on this image?

andrejlr, i copy latest /system/lib from official android image to sdcard for libhybris build ( http://linux-sunxi.org/CedarX/libve ).
With vlc from https://github.com/willswang/vlc and libcedarx from https://github.com/jemk/libcedarx 1080p video playing normally in framebuffer (cvlc --demux ffmpeg --codec cedar --vout cedarfb --no-osd <media file>) and cpu usage is low (20% - 30%)
I don't use this build. From here I use only xbmc. I use the build on the basis of ubuntu 13.10 with framebuffer console because x server isn't necessary for me.

johndoe_71rus, you can add "export VDPAU_DRIVER=sunxi to /etc/environment" for global support vdpau.

 @l0k9j8 that's cool. So it proves, that it's generally working.

I wish, i had time for such crafting.

Can't there just be a linux image, that works out of the box? With wifi and bluetooth.
No need for XBMC. Just want to play avi, mkv and maybe Youtube (not even in browser, perhaps through banshee or some other app e.g minitube).

Recently saw the lubuntu 1.01 has mali drivers built in. They just have to be enabled. Will check that out
this evening. Without them enabled banshee is not even starting, and video playback in gstreamer based players
is terribly slow (installed all the gstreamer codecs) . VLC  did some greate on job on SD Avi's, but after upgrading the packages it crashes now with a segmentaion fault.

:-/
With this state, there is no use for a linux desktop version.

For build vlc need use this manual http://linux-sunxi.org/VLС, but replace https://github.com/willswang/libcedarx on https://github.com/jemk/libcedarx

I love the Cubieez Debian image - fast and stable (a real good job of drkcbn) . I miss only the "mouse busy cursor" if a user starts a application. I use Cubietrucks in combination with Remmina as ThinClients, but the missing busy cursor is also in the RDP session. I've done several tests with different themes and configurations, but so far without success...

Any idea how can I fix this?

Great image for cubietruck!  Very stable comparing with the official linaro.

Only one problem.  I am curious anybody else having experienced the audio / video sync problem while playing rmvb movies with the stock gnome mplayer?

It will be OK if playing the same file from desktop vlc via samba.   It's 720p.

On cubietruck, I am playing video via hdmi and audio via spdif.
What kind of video output option should we choose? The default one seems "xvmc".
Should I tick the "Enable Video Hardware Support"?

Thanks.

there are several howtos.
Keep in mind, that Allwinner SoC has an internal bootrom that has no SATA support.
It tries to boot from sdcard, if this is not booteble it boots from nand.

So you can only move the rootfile-system to HDD und have to edit uEnv.conf on nand (nanda or nand1) or SD-Card (mmcbkl0p1). There you have to cahnge the rootfs kernel argument.
For example replace the rootfs=/dev/mmablk0p1 to rootfs=/dev/sda1

How an image works best?     Installing it on nand, a sd or a hd?
It depends on the speed of each.
NAND and SDCard have speed (10-20MByte/sec).
HDD ist well above (50 - 100 MByte/sec)
SSD (as i use 840 EVO) is above 100 MByte/sec with low latency.

Here are some test results...

hello,

one question

Can I install "WICD" from synaptics for the configuration of my network?

I have problems, the conexion wifi not connect for wpa2

I read this post:
Quote
You must edit your network interface.
1. log in as root.
2. open /etc/network/interfaces
3. delete static configuration
4. paste this one:

Code: [Select]
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid master
wpa-psk abcdef12

5. save it and reboot
6. log in as cubie or defaut, than it should work

I dont understand this point "delete static configuration".

for those who have problems with wifi,

- Connect network cable,
- Open "synaptics"
- Search "WICD"
- Download "WICD"
- Apply Changes
- In the Internet menu "double click" on "WICD"

with this program "zero problems"

How can i install PVR Clients (TVHeadend Client) for XBMC?

There is a libXBMC-pvr-arm.so... is this the XBMC Addon for PVR Clients? Can i activate it anyway?

root@cubie:/allwinner/xbmc-pvr-binhf/lib/xbmc/addons/library.xbmc.pvr# dir
libXBMC_pvr-arm.so

Sometimes HDMI loose the connection and i See the bluescreen of the TV. Cubieez still working but i habe to restart to See something in screen. Ans solution for that?

Hi!

thanks for the Image!  The best I ever get.

What can I do to bring wlan0 up???
I added this to the "interfaces" after eth0
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid 308Win   (yes, this is my SSID name^^ -- not written in interfaces)
wpa-psk myWLANpassword

But WLAN don't work :(

How I can change the HDMI screen resolution from 1280x720 to higher values?
(1680x1050 or 1920x1080)

Thanks in advance!

So I did read on this thread from some that 720p in xbmc with h264 and I guess x264 too works more or less perfectly fine.

I could not understand that first, now I have a idea what I did miss here.

720p in xbmc works for people with Cubieboard 2 and not for Cubieboard 3 / Cubietruck , right?

Becuase if you say me that all should work perfectly with a this (SD-) Image with cubietruck hardware I must have done something wrong and have to flash again my sd card fresh and go again step by steps like described in this tutorial.

So does 720p material work  with x264 mkv files fluently with the sd image on a Cubietruck (Cubieboard 3) in XBMC?

Thanks for your work and these great images.

I want to raise an issue here that is probably more directed to Patwood.

I can't help but notice the poor Ethernet Gigabit performances of the CT. I have a eSata sheevaplug that actually performs a lot better that the CT on that front.

Also I noticed that it is not possible to enable Jumbo Frames.
If I do the following to activate Jumbo Frames on the fly:

Code: [Select]
ifconfig eth0 mtu 9000CT returns
Code: [Select]
SIOCSIFMTU: Device or resource busy
If I edit /etc/network/interfaces to activate jumbo frames at boot time like so:
Code: [Select]
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
MTU 9000
CT will boot up but any ethernet communication will fail.

It is common to all Debian images I came across for CT, looks like a resource sharing issue.
I believe I remember that Jumbo Frames worked without issue on linaro....

This is kind of a turnoff and can become a show stopper for some people. I was actually planning on buying a second CT to replace my second sheevaplug but I did put the purchase on hold until that issue is sorted out.

Unfortunately I do not posses the knowledge to look into these problems so I can only raise them and see if someone will pick them up.

Thank you folks.

What is the goal on using jumbo frame. You only gain aprox. 5% protocol overhead.

But on cubietruck we have only 60% of a regular gbit performance. Why bother with jumbo frames ?

I even considered to buy a cb1 or cb2 addionaly in the time between. But when cb2 and cb3 are both allwinner 20 based, there should be no difference on this part right?

I don't think the CT's gmac driver supports 9K MTUs.  I've managed to set it from the command line (you have to unplug the cable and ifdown eth0 first, and even then it doesn't always work) up to 3K, but it really only works at up to around 2200.  I do get xfer rates > 700Mbit/sec with it set to 2K running multiple threads (-P) with iperf.

Hi,
i've running the Cubieez Debian Image on Cubie-2 Board. I like it, but there is a strange Problem at all:

1)
I've installed Bluetooth, sudo apt-get install bluetooth did the job.
Bluetooth Icon apeared in the Taskbar. I can search for devices.

If i want to connect to the device (Serial Bluetooth device) i fill in the Password "0000" and click ok. After that, nothing happens anymore.

I've readed a lot of Stuff around Debian, Bluetooth and Bluez related to this bug.
One hint was, to connect two Bluetooth radio sticks!
Ok, put in a second one and: It works...
i can connect to Bluetooth device and the serial adaptor binds as rfcomm0 to system.

Now, it is not possible to connect a new device without the two Bluetooth sticks in... silly, isn't it?

2)
/dev/rfcomm0 is in Group "dialout" and permissions are root/dialout Crw-rw-----
I added the USer cubie to Group "dialout". Command groups lists "dialout"
When i execute a software under user cubie, there is no access to /dev/rfcomm0
If i change rights "sudo chmod 777 /dev/rfcomm0" all is working as expected.

Any hints on that?
I'm not that familiar with x-systems, so excuse me, if i did silly things :-)

btw: same bluetooth stick on RASP-PI is working under wheezy with same software to access rfcomm0!

best regards, Michael

ok, i try to answer myself, as i found out an interesting fact:

after boot of cubieboard-2 it dosn't work for me, to activate the already paired BT Device serial connection.
(Recent connections on Bluetooth...)

the connected "rfcomm0" will not work!

after i process: sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart all will be fine! I can reconnect "recent connections" and rfcomm0 is working. ( some times i had to do it twice...)

A BT Restart is not the solution for connecting BT Devices! This i only can do with two USB-BT Sticks  :P

I just completly downloaded again the images and flashed the image again on a sdcard and bootet it.

720p (mov file) of the big buck bunny test video works I think 100% perfect.

also 720p videos from youtube work I have some glitches here and there, but thats a known bug reported in this thread before, could solve that starting xbmc outside of X.

Because I thought that maybe xbmc samba is somehow buggy I uploaded also a 720p x264 mkv file (x264 is a h264 encoder).

It stutters very strong. I tried then again some other files 720p mp4 files seemed to work better but I think not totaly fluent.

The funny thing is if I play em with smplayer (at least with another image, it works perfect, could check later if smplayer works here also perfect). So its not a hardware issue like that the video-chip cant use this files.

So questions:

1. your uploaded script.cubie2 has nothing to do with video encoding right?
2. how is it possible that smplayer playes 720p mkv x264 files just fine, but xbmc just dont play fluently.
3. is there something else I am missing whats not writen in the description post?
4. does nobody else have 720p x264 mkv files on their harddisk, do you all use that image only for youtube or something similar?
5. is that normal that top lists sometimes some 90% cpu usage programs with the names: "xlyap" and "metaballs" and whats their job?

I cant think of another question right now ;-)

Most people have problems the the EDID info reading from the monitor because of using adapters. Do you use an adapter?

You might give cubiuntu on sdcrad a try for testing purpose. Is has scripts for switching resolution from 720  to 1080 on the desktop.

Hi there!

i'm quite new on the cubien stuff. I setup up a headless system with an SATA SSD drive, to set up my desk web-server. I is a replacement for the PI.
As so far, all seems to be fine, except my basic understanding of this one-board pieces:

If I'm right, then the kernel resist on the nanda boot partition, the rest of the system is on my SSD. What if there is a kernel update?
I need to download the whole system, for just to be able to update the kernel over the LiveSuit app?
Wouldn't be wise in this case to pack just the nanda boot stuff with the "uEnv.txt" set to sda1 for the people who use the system with SSD?
Or did I miss something at this point?

No you can replace the kernel by doing some copy operations to nand and rootfs. But we dont have a scripted update and different kernels. Most of the distros use patwoods kernel

You have to update the files at your first nand partiton frome the kernel tar. This can be done from your actual running system because these files are only used during boot.
The you create your a second rootfilesystem on your hdd and copy the new kernel files?

The you have to tell the nand boot kernel were to find the new rootfilesystem. I dont know were to configure. It is not in uEnv.txt because there you can only set the partition but not the directory on that partition.

When I download this image, do I need to uncompress it first? How can I do this on my Mac? Do I use terminal?

Second question, to write to sd card command is

sudo dd if=/path_to_image of=/dev/card_identifier

Is this correct? or do i need to modify the command?

Hello ALL!

Anybody can help me?

The problem is that I have permanently destroyed MBR on NAND Android, when I boot with Cubieez microSD [Cubieez 1.0 (Cubietruck A20 version)], my hardware CPU is A20 rev.B.
Debian itself while operating normally.

I tried the latest 2 image for CT from http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubietruck/android/
- ct-nand-v1.01-20140109.img.gz
- ct-nand-v1.01-20140110.img.gz

After properly shutdown of Debian and remove the card, I get the splash-screen on Cubietruck.

Debug log serial as an attachment.

First, a comment: please don't use spaces in file names; they are not CLI friendly. Personally, I avoid caps, too, as these are just extra keystrokes.

Okay, two questions:

1. What are the contents of your nanda partition?  Boot from SD, mount nanda, and do ls -lR.
2. What does your nand partition table look like?  Please run nand-part and give the partition layout.

nand is not partitioned with fdisk.  fdisk should never be used on the nand device.  Use nand-part.

If you run the "blkid" command as root, it will report any partitions you have on nand.  Mount the nanda partition and report its contents.

You might also try using the search bar on the forum.  Lots of results if you search for nand-part.

Looks like you nand has been erased but not programmed.  You need to program something to it if you want to boot from it.

Problem by moving to Nand1/SSD.

Hi Guys,
i want to move the files of the first partition to nand1.
The contend of the second partition (rootfs) should move to sda1.

Now i Copied that all and edited the uEnv.txt like this:

Code: [Select]
console=tty0
loglevel=7
root=/dev/sda1 rootwait
extraargs=console=ttyS0,115200 earkyprintk=vga,ttyS0,115200

Now when i put out the sdcard and boot only the red Power led ligths up.
otherwise nothing happens.

Then i take a look on the partitions on the SD card.
The first is formated as Fat16.
Is it nessesary to get fat16 on Nand1 for booting.

Thanks for helping
Robert

Yes, FAT16 is o.k.

But before this first partition there should be the uboot file.

To get a working nand i recommend to flash a working image with livesiute or phoenix and then replace the files on nand1 from your sd card.

But.... MUST it be Fat16?

On the "boot"partition of Cubieez i cant find uboot

as i tried Lubuntu SDcard image i must write the uboot the the first partition of the card.

u-boot-sunxi-with-spl-ct-20131102.bin

Can i use this or is there any other file?

You cannot use the SD card uboot  on nand.  Read this: http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,511.0.html. Be sure to read everything on the first page. There's a tutorial a little more than half way down.

This is starting to sound like an A20 Rev B problem.  If this is the case, you should start from a working android install and boot linux from an SD card (I can't remember -- does linux boot properly on rev B chips?)

Anyway, once you have linux booted from SD, don't wipe the nand[a1] partition.  Use nand-part to create a root fs (retain the partition named "boot") and install a nand-compatible u-boot like this: http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,511.0.html and the kernel image like this: http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,511.msg2408.html#msg2408.

I think there may be initialization code in the boot.axf file that's specific to the rev B chips.  If you can, please upload this file from a working rev B android nanda partition.

I can't even find any mali package with apt-cache search xserver-xorg-video

also having performance issues with XBMC, but not sure if I did something wrong or it is related to running the video from USB.

NAND version installed.

Are you connected to a router?  Is that router running a dhcp server?  What is the range of IP addresses being used on your network?  Your configuration will only work on a network that is using static addresses and not dhcp.

Hello Everybody,

First, thanks for this nice image, Cubieez is very functional.

Despite saying that, i'm quite annoyed with the hardware acceleration and video playing...(wich only work well for video player using android and mx player with neon 7 codec....wich i use also from XBMC XAF as an external player...

In cubieez, i couldn't manage to play video file smoothly...even with mplayer...
Any clu to do so?

Another weird thing...when i use Cubieez, booting from sd card, everything is well...but if i want to boot from the nand (so without the sd card), i could not boot on android (last version flashed)...
i'm stuck with a blacj screen and a red "rpogressing bar" wich didn't progress at all... Anyone with the same issue?
I have to flash android "again" and reinstall/configure everything... Weird...no?

See ya.

Yes cable is connected. LED will light.
Static range 10.0.10.1-10.0.10.49
DHCP range is 10.0.10.50-10.0.10.254
I also tried DHCP

Code: [Select]
auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp

but network does not work.
When I boot Android or other Linux and a network works.
Sorry for my English.
Thanks  :)

You must go to the sound config, and select the HDMI audio output as default, reboot it and the cubie will do magic

I checked xrandr but i cant use a little bit smaller resulotion, my display can only use the standard resolution of 1280 × 720. Used interface are HDMI.
I asume that use a tv set. They normaly have a overscan option activated for HDMI input. That option blows up the input to lets say 1340 x 760 and diplay a window of 1280x720 on the lcd .

You have to deactivate the overscan option for the HDMI Input on your tv set/monitor.

Title: No mouse wait/busy cursor at application start in Cubieez, Debian 7.3
Post by: JHimmelbauer on March 09, 2014, 11:59:25 am
I love this Image, but has anyone an idea how can I activate the mouse wait/busy cursor function at  application start?

I use this Image as a ThinClient basis with Remmina - the second problem is, Remmina does also not show the "mouse busy" cursor in a RDP session.  "StartupNotify=true" is set in the Desktop files.

Is this a problem of LXDE, Xorg or Openbox.

Thank you in advance for every hint.

I've actually been working on adapting an eken gc10x to run Debian Wheezy ARMHF from a Cubieez Port.
Its currently in an image format to use Win32DiskImager to write it on a sdcard and it make it bootable.
I converted the script.bin to script.fex and edited it to mostly reflect the standard script.bin used with JB 4.2.2.

http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php?topic=1511.0 (http://"http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php?topic=1511.0")

To try out this image download this 7z (http://"https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzVAS70ib2edS1ZGVk9CWHpXRDQ/edit?usp=sharing") file extract it and use Win32DiskImager to write it to a micro sdcard.
After the image is done writing download this custom script.bin (http://"https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzVAS70ib2edX2Z3c29vVFFGVDQ/edit?usp=sharing") file and replace the current one on the root of the sdcard.
now insert sdcard and reboot the tablet. This will need a keyboard and mouse so using a powered usb hub is ideal.

default user names are root and cubie
default password is cubieboard
to fix the keyboard layout open ternminal and type cubie-config and hit enter might need root
Select #4 then from here you can change what you need I selected logitech generic keyboard then selected other to get more than spanish choices.

to get wifi working type in terminal ifconfig -a
look for your wifi adapter mine was wlan1
now type ifconfig wlan1 up
im sure theres other ways to do this but it works for me
it should now show up with wifi radar.

if not navigate to /etc/network and edit the interfaces
mine looks like

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth1
allow-hotplug-eth1
auto wlan1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
iface wlan1 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid "network name goes here without quotes"
wpa-psk "password goes here without quotes"

save and reboot
now of course if your ethernet and wifi have different interfaces names use those instead of mine

To make XBMC work:
Just uncompress on "/" and run "/allwinner/xbmc-pvr-binhf/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin".

gives me "permission denied" wen trying to extracto it to "/"

...since attached script.bin file link for CB2 in OP is broken (and I'm not the one realizing that!)... may I ask for someone with a fresh copy who maybe can share it, please? :)

(I'm experiencing odd issues with hdmi vertical elastic-flickering using my own script.bin from .63 kernel & don't know why...)

Thanks in advance & cheers!

P.S.:
Anyone using successful dual-head VGA from CB2 breadboard here??

My old [disp_init] config, the one with odd vertical issues:

Do you use HDMI ?
Do you use a HDMI to VGA or DVI adapter ?
What screen resolution do you want ? VGA ? 640x480 ?
How is extraagrs in your uEnv.txt set ?

It should look like this
Code: [Select]
extraargs=console=ttyS0,115200 disp.screen0_output_type=3 disp.screen0_output_mode=1280x720p50 hdmi.audio=EDID:0 .....

don´t set "disp.screen0_output_mode=1024x768p60"  which is not valid setting (compare the fex guide)

Search this forum with "extraargs=" ....

There are Distros which have a script to change display resolution (QBee-X, Cubiuntu V888)

I use hdmi
This display my uEnv.txt
Code: [Select]
console=tty0
loglevel=7
root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootwait
extraargs=console=ttyS0,115200 earkyprintk=vga,ttyS0,115200

I've changed it to
extraargs=console=ttyS0,115200 disp.screen0_output_type=3 disp.screen0_output_mode=1280x720p50 hdmi.audio=EDID:0
but no change is also
okay, I'll try to look for in QBee-X, Cubiuntu V888

look here, they have compared some uEnv.txt for HDMI for Cubiuntu und QBee-X to solve an HDMI problem.
Cubiuntu A20 (http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php?topic=568.msg13651#msg13651)

most important for you: You need the EDID option in extraargs auto detect. With EDID on HDMI the display tells the Cubi which resolutions are possible.

I've tried various uEnv.txt but nothing works

Code: [Select]
console=tty0
loglevel=7
root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootwait
extraargs=console=ttyS0,115200 hdmi.audio=EDID:0 disp.screen0_output_type=3 disp.screen0_output_mode=EDID:1280x720p60 earkyprintk=vga,ttyS0,115200

Code: [Select]
extraargs=disp.screen0_output_type=3
disp.screen0_output_mode=1280x720p60
hdmi.audio=EDID:0
consoleblank=0
cubieboard2
sunxi_ve_mem_reserve=128root=/dev/mmcblk0p2
rootwaitpartition=0:1kernel=/uImage.3.4.79-sun7i+script=script-cubie-A20.bin

Code: [Select]
extraargs=disp.screen0_output_mode=EDID:1280x720p60
consoleblank=0
sunxi_ve_mem_reserve=128root=/dev/mmcblk0p2
rootwaitpartition=0:1kernel=/uImage.3.4.79-sun7i+script=script-cubie-A20.bin

zoom a bit too up and to the left
but of the three I prefer the first and second because the icon is not small, while the third is smaller
sorry if my english bad, because I used google translate

Kernel Update?

Hi all,
about 4 weeks ago, I installed this the Cubieez-Debian on a headless system (without monitor). I fiddled around a while with a keyboard to install a ssh server blind (there is no ssh server installed by default). For this procedure I used the NAND image. After all I moved the system to my SATA-SSD drive.

I do stay now on kernel 3.4.61+ and would like to update to kernel 3.4.75, but I have some difficulties:

1. I do not have a hdmi cable or a monitor
2. my Cubieez Debian is a productive web server (so no long downtime allowed)
3. I do have only one shot. If the system does not run anymore, my webserver will be down for a longer period

Actual I do boot from /dev/nanda and changed the root to /dev/sda1 in uEnv.txt

nanda contains this files:

Code: [Select]
ls -l
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  118912 Jan  1  1980 boot.axf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root     106 Jan  1  1980 boot.ini
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  222964 Jan  1  1980 drv_de.drv
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  233932 Jan  1  1980 drv_hdmi.drv
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  344813 Jan  1  1980 font24.sft
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  357443 Jan  1  1980 font32.sft
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root    2048 Jan  1  1980 linux
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root     512 Jan  1  1980 magic.bin
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root    2048 Jan  1  1980 os_show
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  226576 Jan  1  1980 prvt.axf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root   46240 Jan  1  1980 script.bin
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root  284320 Jan  1  1980 sprite.axf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root     176 Feb 11 00:32 uEnv.txt
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4611672 Jan  1  1980 uImage

uEnv.txt contains:
Code: [Select]
console=tty0
extraargs=console=ttyS0,115200 hdmi.audio=EDID:0 disp.screen0_output_mode=EDID:1280x720p50 rootwait panic=10 rootfstype=ext4 rootflags=discard
nand_root=/dev/sda1

Who can advise me, how to securely update my kernel to the actual version?

Where can i get the correct kernel versions?

thanks1

Hello, I'm trying to start network but is not possible, my router is an apple express with ips 10.0.1.x

I just burned cubieez 1.0 in a SD and pluged in in my cubietruck, with the network connected, but is not able to detect it, even wificard is not detected.

I loged in as root/cubieboard.

I setup resolv.conf and interfaces (192 by 10.x) and is not even working. In dhcp mode is even not getting ip from the router.

No problems with other roms.

Can anyone help me? thank you.

Added: Same results with Cubieez on SD and kernel v3.4.79 and reloaded xbmc from first post in thread.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Did you remember to install the packages via "apt-get" before starting xbmc?

Are your xbmc-Files extracted into the root-dir? ( / )

Did you start this binary file:

/allwinner/xbmc-pvr-binhf/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin

and not the one in the /bin directory? (this was my fault at first ;) )

@ drkbcn:

Do you plan to make an update for your cubieez?

I have two suggestions:
 - Add the consoleblank=0 Kernel Parameter as default in uEnv.txt. XBMC is useless when the screen goes blank every 10 minutes
 - Provide an example init-script for xbmc.

Works fine, thanks !!

Unfortunately no pvr plugins are available in this compilation. :-(
I tried recently to compile xbmc by myself and failed.
Is there a description how the xbmc binary was compiled?

Hi,

i like this ROM, it's fast and quite simply.

But i don't understand if is possible play video (1080p and mkv) without lag (and with audio sync).
I've already tried xbmc and gnome player.

What should i do?

thanks for help.

At the moment i think, its not possible for a "normal" user to play any 1080p video without problems :/ XMBC runs with cedar support but has pink glitches. 1080p and mplayer seems to have some outstanding work :/
we will have to wait a while as cedar support gets commonly

Edit: any experience with bluetooth ? i tried http://linux-sunxi.org/Cubietruck/Bluetooth and worked till the looping firmware, but then the hci0 device isnt found :/

XBMC

CT, HDMI to FullHD TV. Try running with Xserver and without with same results.

############### END LOG FILE ################

############ END XBMC CRASH LOG #############

Added: Same results with Cubieez on SD and kernel v3.4.79 and reloaded xbmc from first post in thread.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I had the same problem when I ran xbmc logged as cubie. It works when I run it as root (/dev/disp seemed to be accessible by root only).

However I think running xbmc as root is not a very good option. I tried to allow cubie to use /dev/disp by setting a udev rule (/etc/udev/rules.d/50-disp.rules) :

Code: [Select]
KERNEL=="disp", MODE="0660", GROUP="video" 50-cedar.rules KERNEL=="cedar_dev", MODE="0660", GROUP="video"
Now the user cubie can run xbmc but the focus is "behind" (ie: I can type in the terminal or move the X cursor).
Did anybody have an idea to solve this problem ?

Try runing as root with same results.

I think, main issue is Segmentation fault error. I guess it's something about incompatible compilation with kernel.

You can also run cubie-config, it's quite simple too.

Okay total newbie here with cubietruck, have had it for awhile loaded several pre-made images on nand and sd card, but like this image thus far the best, im still having issues with getting my wifi to work, have tried wifi radar and it cannot find ip, so i edited, /etc/network/interfaces, but am unsure if i did it correctly, any help would be awesome! Also what do i have to edit to change output on HDMI to 1920x1080p60HZ? Thanks!

Hi
Sorry for my Bad english first :-D

Alex 1188 you have to download the sunxi tools
git clone https://github.com/linux-sunxi/sunxi-tools

Then copy the script. bin file from /boot to anywhere you want to backup the file
Now copy the script.bin to the sunxi-tools folder.
Now remove the script.bin from /boot
Then go in the sunxi-tools  directory and type in
 ./bin2fex script.bin script.fex
You have a script.fex file now. Then type in
sudo nano script.fex
Now search for disp_init and edit your file following.

[disp_init]
disp_init_enable = 1
disp_mode = 0

screen0_output_type = 3
screen0_output_mode = 10

screen1_output_type = 4
screen1_output_mode = 10

Then save the file.

Now you have to remove the script.bin in the sunxi-tools directory and then type in
./fex2bin script.fex script.bin

Now you have a new script.bin file in the directory.
Now you have to copy the script.bin file to the /boot directory and reboot.
Now you are finish nice job man

Hello all. I am interesting in a light-weight XBMC image for the Cubietruck as I am not satisfied with my RaspberryPi and OpenElec or XBina or Raspbmc when looking at live streams. There are too long delays when using menus, switching to channels, etc... I hope it'll get better when using a Cubietruck instead.

Is this image (Cubieez) the only one which I can use for having XBMC on my Cubietruck? Or is it even possible to use Slovenia's wheezy server image, install LMDE or a similar light-weight desktop environment and then add XBMC ? Anyone have tried this and can share expierence?

Things arent that easy, i made the "mistake" in believing this. XMBC runs on Cubietruck, but only with CedarX (which is mainly the hardware accelartion) but gets pink glitches etc. Right now users are working on it, but i think it will take a while till it gets user friendly.

Hey there,

i now figured out how to use vnc and bluetooth and switching to chromium (which works like a charm, syncing etc). but next problem is, i really think the rom is very slow compared to others. i tried to find out why the cpu frequency just stays at 960MHz all the time, but didnt find a hint :/ is there a chance you can fix this or give me a descripton, what i have to do ?

Chris,
I ´m  impressed  ;) Nice going

To get Cubieez running I just copied the hole uEnv.ct text and script.bin from Cubiuntu 1.001 (Nand version) Started right up with  1920x1080p60  ;D

This works
Sound -  ;D
Wifi -  ;D
Ethernet -  ;D
(WICD)

Working with VLC, works in GNOME ..tiny picture

Something that is enoying is the password that for sometime is cubieboard and other times my choosen passwd  :o  comments???

Almost everything works, but I must say the Cubiuntu 1.001 is way way better. Had to try this but for learning I will keep toying with Wheezy Server and for everything else it will be the much faster Cubiuntu.

Only hope we get to here from Ikeeki again  :-\

Maybe I'm just missing it, but I can't find script.cubie2 anywhere.  I tried running without it, and it seems to work for the most part, but I can't get networking going.  Maybe it's unrelated, but I suspect it's a driver / firmware issue.  I only just got my cubie, so I'm still somewhat unfamiliar with certain aspects (such as what script.bin is actually for).

To elaborate on my networking issue, I've tried with static and dhcp, and, while it recognizes that the cable is plugged in, it gets no response from my router for DHCP, and when I use static and try to ping, I get "not reachable" back from the iface.  I setup the routing, and even tried specifying the interface for ping, but still, no avail.  I plug the cable into my laptop, and it works fine, so it's definitely not anything outside of the cubie.  (I'm using that cable right now to post this ;) )  Also, I've removed all the WM stuffs from startup, and I use ip to setup the interface and routes.  I've also tried configuring it in /etc/network/interfaces and restarting networking, and even rebooting... to no avail.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  :)
Again, I suspect it's a driver / firmware related issue, but I've pretty much reached the extent of my capacity to effectively debug it.

Thank you, and Have a Nice Day :)

IanWizard, this is what I did:
Be aware! Im a newbie!!! ;D ;D ;D

I have Cubiuntu 1.001 running on NAND. I started up in nand and put the card in a usb adapter. I copied/paste over script.bin and the uEnv.txt. This is the uEnv.txt:

extraargs=disp.screen0_output_type=3 disp.screen0_output_mode=1920x1080p60 hdmi.audio=EDID:0 consoleblank=0 cubietruck
sunxi_ve_mem_reserve=128
nand_root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootwait

This is my setup for network ( I downloaded WICD, which I prefer, in synaptic)

# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto eth0
allow-hotplug-eth0
auto wlan0

# configuring manual IP
iface eth0 inet dhcp

#address 192.168.0.1
#netmask 255.255.255.0

iface wlan0 inet dhcp
#address 192.168.0.1
#netmask 255.255.255.0

Happy days   :) :) :)

There are "Permission denied" all over.

If i want to download a wallpaper, I cant save it "Permission denied"  :(
Tried to change VLC skin. Downloaded a new skin and try to save it (usr/share/vlc/skins2) "Permission denied"  :(

It is just examples, but there is surely a way to get Permission. Or else it feels like $windows >:(

Btw, discovered that Iceweasel is more powerful that I thought   :D Would love to have a tutorial how to get Chromium up and running though..hint,hint Chris  ;D ;D

And VLC run smooth with new skin in full HD :) (after a xorg install)

I take back all the things Ive said, and keep work on this image to  ;D ;D

There are "Permission denied" all over.
Use terminal
Code: [Select]
sudo <command>
for example
Code: [Select]
sudo mcwill ask you for password (typing do not showing on the screen) open mc with root permissions (if mc installed).

and for GUI, but I guess only with gnome or gnome-like WM
Code: [Select]
gksudo <command>will open GUI for entering password.

You always can do backup of your SD-card or even nand to SD-card.

mc is just file manager for terminal.

Try to adapt instructions for writing OS image to SD-card for creating backups. You always can rewrite your card.

I guess you simply can't broke your cube, so google->try->use man-command for details->wiki... and... have a fun. :)

For vnc11server:

1. Set default password:
Code: [Select]
vncserver
2. Create "startvnc.sh" in /home/cubieez/

Code: [Select]
#! /bin/sh
x11vnc -forever -display :0

3. Create "VNC Autostart" in /etc/xdg/autostart

Code: [Select]
[Desktop Entry]
Name=VNC Autostart
Exec=/home/cubie/startvnc.sh
Type=Application
Terminal=true

Should start automatically at boot up!

As for chromium, can you tell me what error your get if you install with synaptics ? Didnt find the solution in my history, but if you give me the error i will find it ;)

chromium
chromium-inspector
chromium-l10n

@alphard

I have to write the nameserver in./etc/network/interfaces
for example a /etc/network/interfaces file

auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0

iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.6
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1
dns-nameserservers 192.168.1.1

so it's correct.  In my case the router is the nameserver.

And the /etc/resolv.conf file
nameserver 192.168.1.1

That's for static ip
For DHCP you should connect your cubieboard to your router and looking for your ip.
Then ping to the right ip address.

I think you have to write every time a nameserver to /etc/resolv.conf
for example you can test with Google nameserver 8.8.8.8

No, unfortunately it doesn't even answer to pings and I've checked both SSH and VNC.
Also I noticed that I can't ping anything from the cubie, pinging google for example resulted on a "Unknown host" error.

Also, I should note that I'm running on CB2 and not CT (the note on the OP said this image would work on the CB2 as well).

This image work fine on cubieboard 2.
Do you have change the Script.bin file?
That was my first fail and Ethernet not working correctly.

The image work fine on cubietruck too.
The cubietruck is nice but horrible too because this scary high sound I have send back the board.
The support says it is a design fail a coil is false.
Have anyone else this scary sound to by cubietruck?

No sound issues with mine.

Sounds like your Ethernet device isn't loaded correctly then.. See the script.bin file then ;) you need fex2bin bin2fex to edit it.

Mhh I have test the cubietruck with three Power Supply 2,5 a-3,5a with Ethernet and without. Without all connections too.
And I have test this image fedora and Android.
But the sound did not go away.  How old are you perhaps you are to old the sound is very high.

Well I have a cubieboard 2 this work fine and a ODROID is on the way from Korea :-D

It differs from device to device, as there are large qualitiy deviations in the electromagnetic coils. Occurs on all kind of hardware, e.g. graphiccards, psus etc.

Hi,
I'm new in this forum as I've just bought a Cubietruck to use ad media center and owncloud server.

I've downloaded your image, and installed XBMC from the prebuilt binary you have linked.

I've followed all your instructions and LXDE, and XBMC seems to start correctly.
But I've tried to play big buck bunny sample movie (1080P) just to test XBMC (I've also stopped lightdm, to be sure X doesn't conflict with XBMC) but the playback window is simply black. The video starts playing (I can see the seconds move) but I cannot see anything...Only the XBMC Controls.

It only works if I disable Cedar and use sw decoding.

I've also tried other ways to play fullhd movies: vdpau with reverse enginering drivers and I've also tried to install Gentoo (with many kernels) and XBMC from the empat0 git repository, but the result remains the same: XBMC working, but no video.

PS. I tried both HDMI and VGA outputs... same result

Can you help me please?
Thanks

Sry to hear that  :(...
You will have to re-flash the Cubieboard with Android and then if you want dual boot follow these instructions:

Does anybody have problems with xbmc? It works too slow, it's impossible for me reproduce any .mkv file.

I installed it from repository and also from this post, following the instructions.

I hope you can help me. thanks!

Hej, so I've got a problem with a missing library.
When i want to execute the xbmc.bin in the /allwinner/.../lib/xbmc I get the following error:

"./xbmc.bin: error while loading shared library: libvecore.so; cannot open shard object file: No such file or directory"

But in the /lib directory is a libvecore.so file. Any idea?
Using a Cubietruck.

Hi HisDvdeness (funny! luv that!)

Just so your post...never too late...

You've got this error because of a missing lib...
If you read the xbmc sunxi page http://linux-sunxi.org/XBMC (http://linux-sunxi.org/XBMC)
there is a lot of pre requisites...

Usually, in terminal, with
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
and finally:
apt-get build-dep xbmc

That should do the trick...
Be even with that, you have too manually install some dependencies
apt-get install swig default-jre libgtk2.0-bin libssh-4 libssh-dev

And luckily, it should work...or nt, as this XBMC bin need libhal* wich is deprecated in recent linux release....

SO clearly, xbmc is not easily usable by now.... :o

In console mode, if you do
Code: [Select]
sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configure
That should do the trick! ;-)

You can use livesuit/phoenixsuit flash the firmware to nand flash

Hi Aaron.Keepace,
i discovered that Mageia can use livesuite  ;)

so first of all i should push extracted img from cubieez-ct-nand-hdmi-v2.2.img.img.7z into nand using livesuite.
After i would like to use ssd, so how could i go away:
- create a 10G EXT4 partition on ssd
- mount new ssd partition on /mnt/ssd
- cp -r / /mnt/ssd

could be ok ?

Hi!, this is the first time I write in this forum.

I have a cubieboard2 and a cubietruck, both working with a capacitive hdmi screen.

I'm downloaded the images from the oficial page.

this is the screen ( http://www.chalk-elec.com/?page_id=1280#!/10-LCD-LVDS-bundle-with-capacitive-touchscreen-RaspberryPi-REFURBISHED/p/14647624/category=3094861 )

and the screen input works as an HID-MULTITOUCH.

it works fine in the cubieboard2 with http://dl.cubieboard.org/model/cubieboard2/Image/cubieez/cubieez-hdmi-v2.0/cubieez-cb2-card-hdmi-v2.0.img.7z

and also with  http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubieboard/debian/nand/

but it doesn't work with any image for the cubietruck.

can you tell me where can i found a tutorial to enable hid-multitouch in cubietruck cubieez img?

thanks.

thanks for the quick replay.

I have downloaded and tried all the Cubieez-hdmi images for Cubietruck from
http://dl.cubieboard.org/model/cubietruck/Image/

but not a single one of these images is able to recognize the touch input as in the images for cubieboard2.

how can i modified the cubieez-ct-nand-hdmi-v2.2.img.img to work with the usb hid-multitouch?

Cubieez not booting then HDMI is not connected. I need headless solution with wifi only. When I connect HDMI it shows that is stuck on loading HDMI driver.

I will try to switch to VGA:
Code: [Select]
screen0_output_type = 4
hdmi_used = 0

Will it help? Do I'm switching properly?

For those who didn't know or can't find the links for download at www.cubieboard.org, the Cubieez 2.1 and 2.2, img files files may be downloaded here:

http://dl.cubieboard.org/model/cubietruck/Image/Cubieez/

They are NOT linked on the main download page at Cubieboard.org, where you'll find version 2.0:
