using cubieboard without connecting it to monitor
« on: October 07, 2013, 05:15:04 pm »
Hi,
I have received my Cubieboard2 right now and I want to start using it, but without connecting any monitor to it.
Actually I want to have access to my Cubieboard via Ethernet and ssh. So the interface to this board would be a shell page on my laptop instead of directly connecting the board to display. Is there any solution for this task?
Thanks in advance

well, I found this distro named Cubian which is a lightweight Linux distro containing ssh.

If you know a better solution for my problem, let me know.

Another option is to install a VNC server on Ubuntu, which allows you access desktop remotelly, such as you works locally.

If you prefer linaro/ubuntu, you can try this: http://dl.cubieforums.com/patwood/linaro-quantal-developer-20130422-342-A20-3.4.61.img.xz

It's a basic headless linaro with ssh and dev tools already installed.  It's described in more detail here: http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,838.0.html and here: http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,588.msg2984.html#msg2984.

Thanks teprom and patwood. I also found an image on the download page of Cubieboard website (http://cubieboard.org/download/) for A20 which doesn't include desktop with Linux3.3. Does anybody know which distro is that image? The link is below

You can use that, but the 3.3.x kernel branch for A20 is dead; no work has been on it for around 3 months now, so don't expect any updates for that distro.
