SOLVED: Cannot write images using OSX?
« on: August 29, 2013, 07:41:50 am »
All guides tell me to use the following command to write an image to my SD card:

Code: [Select]
sudo dd bs=1m if=cb_a20_ubn_12.04_x-v1.03-hdmi.img of=/dev/rdisk1
It always results in that I cannot read the SD card and android says its broken. I've tried A LOT of different images, same result.

I'm using the SDHC slot on my MacbookPro 2013 (using a larger SDcard "holder" for my microSD)

should a use a USB microSD reader instead?

any help?

I am not sure, but I think what you are trying to do is flash the firmware, and I don't know about OS X (I use Windows) but for that you need the PhoenixSuit / LiveSuit.

I have done it on my Mac Pro several times and it works with no problems.  Might I suggest this tutorial:

I believe your problem lies with this : of=/dev/rdisk1, on my Mac its more like /dev/disk5.
Follow the Mac section on the above link and I think you'll be fine.

Thanks,
Freddie

Thanks! I havent seen that guide, will try

A quick question. Are you using the SD slot and a microSD SD adapter on your macbook or are you using a USB microSD card reader?

I'm wondering if it's my SD-slot that is the problem?

I tried PhoenixSuit on my Windows bootcamp partition, and it worked to flash my NAND, but I was referring to microSD :)

I followed the guide EXACTLY and it worked on cubieboard2-linux3.3-SD-card-image.img ! :)

It must be something with the "sync" and "eject" that I didn't do before

Thanks! That guide should be a sticky or something for other mac users
