7" LCD w/touch and HDMI converter
« on: August 28, 2013, 04:57:11 pm »
I just received a new toy from China: a 7" TFT LCD (800x480), a resistive touch panel, and an HDMI/VGA/AV->LCD converter board: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/HDMI-VGA-AV-of-LCD-driver-board-support-7-inch-LCD-modules-with-touch-panel/847969971.html  It can be had for cheaper with free shipping, but these guys had the best total price when combined with DHL Express (ordered on the 20th, arrived on the 26th).

It includes a 4-wire resistive touch to USB converter, so it works with the usbtouchscreen.ko driver and the xinput_calibrator utility.  The HDMI converter board performs scaling on the signal, so it'll display multiple resolutions (I've tried 720x480 and 1280x720 so far).

LCD is bright with good colors; wide viewing angles except from below.  Videos look pretty good, given the resolution.  Looks a lot like the screens in the super-cheap 7" tablets in the < $100 range.  See attached pix.

I should point out that the HDMI->LCD converter board supports both 50-pin TTL and LVDS panels up to 1080p, and has on-board voltage converters with separate LED power output and inverter output for larger panels.  The bare boards are available separately from a bunch of stores on Aliexpress starting around $25.

Got the same setup pretty much, only 8".  Works great, though I might wind up scavenging a capacitive touch and screen from a galaxy tab 3 shortly.  Resistive was too easy.  I really don't enjoy the simulated multitouch.

Hi,

anybody tried to connect 7" (or other) LCD with Cubieboard without HDMI converter?
Baseboard DVK521 contains 40pin connector for LCD screen. I'm wondering what type of LCD screen might be compatible with it ?

thanks.

Thank you very much.  I bought a couple of screens and waiting for delivery. Will be playing with it then.

Thank you again.
To be honest, i don't understand how you calculate settings for vertical & horizontal sync, but your data works fine. I just changed "screen1_output_..." to get mirror screen on HDMI.
