DisplayPort resolutions in Android
« on: May 19, 2016, 04:45:09 am »
Hi everyone,

I posted basically the same question in the OS board, but now I see that Android may be the better-supproted OS on Cubieboard5.

I am looking into the Cubieboard5 / Cubietruck Plus board. I like the DisplayPort connection, because it might help me drive the Ipad 3 retina display with an Abusemark adapter (http://abusemark.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=53).

But this requires the possibility of setting a custom resolution on the DisplayPort output: 2048x1536.

So far I haven't seen successful attempts to do this on an ARM-based board. Some people tried it with the ODROID XU3:

http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=2745

It seems they failed because of some issue with that specific resolution. One user posted the timings:

Code: [Select]

parse-edid: parse-edid version 2.0.0
parse-edid: EDID checksum passed.

# EDID version 1 revision 4
Section "Monitor"
# Block type: 2:0 3:10
# Block type: 2:0 3:fe
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
Identifier "Color LCD"
VendorName "APP"
ModelName "Color LCD"
# Block type: 2:0 3:10
# Block type: 2:0 3:fe
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
# DPMS capabilities: Active off:no Suspend:no Standby:no

Mode "2048x1536" # vfreq 60.000Hz, hfreq 92.939kHz
DotClock 205.210000
HTimings 2048 2198 2203 2208
VTimings 1536 1539 1540 1549
Flags "-HSync" "-VSync"
EndMode
# Block type: 2:0 3:10
# Block type: 2:0 3:fe
# Block type: 2:0 3:fc
EndSection

Is there a chance, or better yet, can anyone confirm, that Cubieboard5 would be able to output these timings over DP when using Android?

Thanks a bunch!

This is a bit late, but it may help someone. Wikipedia states the the gpu can output a max video size of
1920x1080p 60hz.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allwinner_Technology#H-Series

I don't have a dp input display larger then 1280x1024 to test it myself.
HDMI output at 1080p 60hz does work well.

More info was found on http://linux-sunxi.org/A80
Which say that 4k is possible frame rate unknown.
If you unpack the android.img https://mega.nz/#F!A54iBKZZ!HKk2a-Qt3pfQ668woM6Fyw!c8oDnIqI
Using imgrepacker, find sys_config,fex which is plain txt. The display configuration can be found starting at line 667.

Good Luck,
Ned
