No sound outside X mode?!
« on: November 01, 2014, 11:41:20 am »
Hi everyone,

I have a weird problem with my CT. I intend to use it as a remote-controlled jukebox (as for now I'm ssh-ing in and play some files) but it appears that the sound is not available if the X server is not started.
Here's how I tested:
1. Logged in to LXDE, sound was working, issuing aplay -l in terminal gave me

**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sunxicodec [sunxi-CODEC], device 0: M1 PCM [sunxi PCM]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

2. Switch to another terminal (ctrl+alt+f1) and used sudo service lightdm stop. The X server stopped, and the sound also stopped. The aplay -l command shows me
aplay: device_list:252: no soundcards found...

3. After starting X server again (sudo service lightdm start) and logging in everything worked fine.

How can I make the sound available without having to log in using LXDE?

Thank you and have a nice day,
Dan
