I used the one from first hit.

There is also a utility called sysvbanner.

apt-get install sysvbanner

oooow  ,Sorry I`m a bit of a apple hater , I don`t like the idea of any company patenting a basic idea like rounded corners or a letter of the alphabet like I ,  They lost a lot of friends when they started on the road of "sue you mate" .

I will agree that Apple have questionable morals. They also seem to believe that their ideas are the correct ones - which a lot of the time they aren't for example, they've only just included the control center and still no Bluetooth file transfer. I actually prefer Android as a mobile OS, but the Apps for Android are a long way off being as good. Mainly because they have to cater for devices of all different chipsets and screen sizes and this can sometimes cause lag and or rendering issues - and stretched lists etc that just don't look good. An example of this is the eBay apps. They have improved, but Apple's apps are better, but their OS isn't as good. As a rule of thumb, I use most platforms for various things and never tie myself to any one thing. I use Windoze, Mac, Linux etc.. :)

How do you make the banner "cubietruck"?I want to make one too!

I used this one: http://www.network-science.de/ascii/

And an app for Mac called ASCII Art for the 3 headed dog: http://nuclearnova.com/applications/asciiart/

Hi Slovenia,

Really appreciate your passion on developing the CT image...
Btw, some people told me that Realtime kernel is better to use in CAS env., Can you give me some advices how to install the RT kernel into your image?

thx

Look here http://www.cubieforums.com/index.php/topic,797.0.html
I'm also interested for CAS using CT.
I tested RT image with above patch-set, it works but I could not differentiate between RT and non-RT image so far. Maybe I don't have golden-ears. ;D

Thank you for this great work !

On my CT (Rev. B), the nand-install script did not work the first time.
Precisely , the partitioning does not work , I have added the tag "-f a20" with nand-part and then it works :)

...(echo y;) | nand-part -f a20 /dev/nand 32768 'bootloader 32768' 'rootfs 0' ...

Many thanks for this image  :)
Seb.

USB redirector module has to be compiled for/with specific kernel and it won't work on others. I think the easiest way is to make an image for Cubieboard 2 ... I made necessary changes (uboot / script bin) but don't have an CB2 to make sure everything works.

Can't help on this issue. :-[

Just some general thoughts. If you run into this kind of troubles and/or you don't know what you are doing it's usually better to start from scratch again, than again, ... There are guides for installing mail server while it's hard to recommend the right one for your wishes & knowledge.

This might be a good start:
http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-debian-wheezy-apache2-bind-dovecot-ispconfig-3

But. Installing and operating an email server on a Linux machine can be/it is (far) away from easy.

@ellnic:
How have you installed openmediavault?
I added the openmediavault repo to my sources.list but has problem with it.
I can't install it, because there is no armhf build in the repo.

I can't install it, because there is no armhf build in the repo.

Armhf is only supported unofficially (although it works well) by some of the guys who make the plugins. More information is here: http://forums.openmediavault.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=481

I altered the procedure slightly though, as there were some issues. For a flawless install do this:

1.
Code: [Select]
echo 'deb http://packages.omv-plugins.org fedaykin main' >/etc/apt/sources.list.d/omv-plugins-org-fedaykin.list
echo 'deb http://packages.omv-plugins.org fedaykin-armhf main' >/etc/apt/sources.list.d/omv-plugins-org-fedaykin-armhf.list

wget -O - http://packages.omv-plugins.org/apt/99omv-plugins-org > /etc/apt/preferences.d/99omv-plugins-org

wget -O - http://packages.omv-plugins.org/omv-plugins.pub|apt-key add -

apt-get update

2. VERY IMPORTANT: Edit /etc/hosts to include your IP and hostname or the install will fail.

For example:

Code: [Select]
192.168.0.10       Cubie
3. Now do:

Code: [Select]
apt-get install openmediavault
You will be asked setup questions for postfix and scponly.. google it if you don't know.

5. Now do:

Code: [Select]
echo "ServerName localhost" | sudo tee /etc/apache2/conf.d/fqdn
and

Code: [Select]
omv-initsystem
You might get an error with omv-initsystem, ignore it.

6. Now you need to manually add the plugins .deb or the updates and plugins tabs will fail.

Code: [Select]
wget http://packages.omv-plugins.org/pool/main/o/openmediavault-omvpluginsorg/openmediavault-omvpluginsorg_0.4~10.gbp5bae63_all.deb

dpkg -i openmediavault-omvpluginsorg_0.4~10.gbp5bae63_all.deb

7. Now login to the OMV control panel and check for updates - there will be a plugin update already, install it

8. Done! Now everything should be working.

Some advice, if you want to use forked-daapd - DO NOT USE the one with OMV... there is a timeout issue on the majority of the forked-daapd available on the Debian repos and the Debian derivatives at the moment.. you need a patched version. See this: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=49928

Follow the instructions, but DO NOT remove libevent-2.0 as it also removes nfs-common which breaks OMV, just skip that bit and follow instructions. It means you have to manually configure it, but it's really not so bad and it works really well.

Hi,

I bought a Cubietruck a month or so ago. My aim is to use it as a media server and I came across the Slovinia operating system and it seems perfect for my need. Many thanks for all the effort to put his together, as I am daunted by trying to enable all the features I think I may need. I was hoping this would solve my problems, but seem stuck at trying to SSH into the board.

I think I have installed this v1.5 server from 22.4.14, but I don't seem to have ethernet.

I downloaded the zip file, unzipped it in windows, used an image writer to write the .RAW file to SD card, inserted the card into the truck with HDMI cable on TV and various text ran up the screen. At the log in prompt I entered "root" and 1234. It seemed to let me in, but now I am stuck.

There is only the red LED lit on the main board (which I think is good as rest have been disabled in this operating system), there is a green light on the ethernet port and the yellow flashes quite frequently, but I can not see Cubietruck connected in attached devices on my router.

I'd really like to just Logitech media server and a Samba server, but am stuck at first base.

Can anyone advise me please? Is it necessary to install any other files along with the RAW image? I see various boot files in other downloads but I'm not sure what is needed or for what systems they are compatible with. Would really appreciate if someone can help.

Thanks

The image should work without any additional settings or install but let's check some basic issues first:

- Do your router provide DHCP? If you don't, you have to manually edit /etc/network/interfaces and set fixed IP
- Was there one automatic reboot at first run? It's necessary.
- Let's check if you got Ethernet module running: Log in and type:

dmesg | grep sunxi_gmac
It should be:
Code: [Select]
[   19.053922] sunxi_gmac: probed
[   19.068222] eth0: PHY ID 001cc915 at 0 IRQ 0 (sunxi_gmac-0:00) active
[   19.085150] eth0: PHY ID 001cc915 at 1 IRQ 0 (sunxi_gmac-0:01)
[   21.092236] PHY: sunxi_gmac-0:00 - Link is Up - 100/Full

Check if your Ethernet is up and got IP from router, type: ifconfig

eth0   Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr ae:50:30:27:5a:cf
          inet addr:172.16.100.96  Bcast:172.16.100.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::7c58:cfff:fe6b:43e1/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:4637827 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:7230795 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:585593341 (558.4 MiB)  TX bytes:9097408467 (8.4 GiB)

If you don't have eth0 adapter and you have module sunx_gmac running than there could be a problem with a router or install was not successful. (at very first run we set some things)

What is in the file, type:
more /etc/network/interfaces

It should begin with:
Code: [Select]
auto eth0
allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
hwaddress ether ae:50:30:27:5a:cf # will be added at first boot

I hope you installed image from the first post since I added one testing - few posts back - which is was done just for Cubieboard2 and I don't know if it works.

We'll find the problem  :)
