Any ideas?  Thanks.

jmandawg

I power cycled it a bunch of times and it booted into the SD card fine twice out of maybe 40 tries, but it won't do it again.  Half of the time it skips the microSD card u-boot altogether and boots into the android image off the nand.  Any ideas?

jmandawg

So i think maybe my hardware is defective.  The only way i can boot from the microSD is if I:

1. boot Android from the nand
2. After android is booted I have to then push in my sd card.  Android says "damaged card" (because it can't read the ext2/ext4 partitions).
3. From the serial console issue a reboot command.

When it reboots it will boot from the microSD successfully.

Any way to fix this?

Sounds like a problem with the SD card or the card socket.  The allwinner chips boot from nand if the SD card isn't detected or if the data at offset 8K on the SD card doesn't have a magic boot string.

Try blowing air into the socket and reinserting the card.  Some people have had luck putting a piece of paper in the slot on top of the card to push it down more onto the contacts.

You may need to try a different card.

JerryChen

I have the same problem.
can not boot from card when power on,if i plug out the card and boot from nand to android, and insert card and reboot android
i can boot from card now!

jmandawg

Most likely a bug with our boards.  Unfortunately this is what happens when you are an early adopter.   Gig ethernet speeds are faster on my $15 pogoplug.  Pretty disappointed so far.

+1 same issue

So it seems their u-boot from their official tutorial is bad (http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubietruck/lubuntu/ct-lubuntu-card0-v1.00/u-boot-sunxi-with-spl-ct-20131102.bin).

Try this u-boot with SPL image and it seems to work correctly.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/v28885kcra62s8n/u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin

You can just dd it right over the existing one on the card.

Quote
sudo dd if=u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=$card bs=1024 seek=8
